I'm not using devfs. Maybe I should give it a try.
Surely there has to be someone with Linux and the Via 686 that has gotten
both working with MIDI? How is it done? What versions of sound
drivers/Linux kernel are used?

The problem is anytime I try to access /dev/sequencer with a MIDI
