There's more than one way to do it, but on my redhat system i have this in /etc/rc.d/rc.local: /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L put that in your rc.local. after you set the mixer settings the way you like, execute this command, which saves the settings: /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc
