However, when I run alsamixer to unmute my sound levels, I get:

First thing, make sure /dev/dsp, /dev/mixer and anything like that are chmod
777ed
Could someone tell me what the critical
settings are for making the mic work.
'Mic as center LFE' should be false,
that I understand, but there must be something else,
with the input source settings or something..
