I seem to have a mental block with alsa install. When I test for sound
with aplay, I get no noise and this result:
abu /usr/yokel/bin ./aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Window_Open.wav

Testing alsa with a .wav file I have lying around, this is what I get.
The sould is ~1 second long, but it takes ~10 seconds after printing
"Mono" for it to get around to printing the error and returning:

Mini-HOWTO, nor at the website, is what tarball-packages need
to be downloaded in order to actually hear sound from speakers using
alsa!!! Its so obvious to you guys you forgot to mention it, but
not to me! www.alsa-project.org's
I think I'm close to having a working alsa install, but something still
isn't right. Xmms comes up, and I can press play, but nothing happens
- like its not progressing through the song, and no noise comes out. I
think I have all 9million kernel modules loaded:
