One topic not covered in either the ALSA HOWTO, nor in the ALSA Mini-HOWTO, nor at the website, is what tarball-packages need to be downloaded in order to actually hear sound from speakers using alsa!!!  Its so obvious to you guys you forgot to mention it, but not to me!  www.alsa-project.org's

I think I'm close to having a working alsa install, but something still isn't right.  Xmms comes up, and I can press play, but nothing happens - like its not progressing through the song, and no noise comes out.  I think I have all 9million kernel modules loaded: abu:/etc# lsmod | grep snd snd
