I seem to have a mental block with alsa install. When I test for sound with aplay, I get no noise and this result:
abu /usr/yokel/bin ./aplay /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Window_Open.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/KDE_Window_Open.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 22050 Hz, Stereo
aplay: pcm_write:1029: write error: Input/output error
I have the following 'snd' modules loaded:
snd-mixer-oss 11328 1 (autoclean)
snd-intel8x0 16480 1
snd-pcm 57376 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-timer 14432 0 [snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart 3008 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-rawmidi 12928 0 [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 3956 0 [snd-rawmidi]
snd-ac97-codec 35232 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd 28000 0 [snd-mixer-oss snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device snd-ac97-codec]
soundcore 3588 1 [snd]
snd-page-alloc 5572 0 (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
Also, I have unmuted and redlines every channel I could with alsamixer.
Please help - I am stumped on what else the problem could be!
One fellow suggested I had not enough ACPI support in my kernel, but hasn't explained what Alsa's ACPI requirements are, exactly.
