What do you mean by "is not running"? You haven't loaded modules for
it? Because it doesn't look like you've jumpered it off, or turned
it

Right. The alsa-base package does not hold drivers. It holds common
files used by the drivers and the ALSA libraries.

Just to add a counter-datapoint -- I'm running a 2.4.23 kernel, with
ALSA 1.0.1, and I have no problems at all. OTOH, I *don't* have an
Intel chipset/sound/processor/anything at all. Hope that helps you
figure out w

them yourself? Or did you get them already compiled and
ready-to-use from the Redhat disc/RPM website/whatever?
