Is this card worht getting used? I mean one can get it for about $50
buck on ebay. How much of this sound system is supported? Is the
breakout box supported? Does AC3 passthrough work? Does SPDIFF work?
There may be a lot better card's out there. Let's say the Game Theater
XP is good

mplayer complains about:
"alsa-init: unable to set periodsize: Invalid argument."
It may happen that some applications want to set a periodsize that is not
supported by the HW.
Try start something that is known to work like aplay:
$ aplay .wav
The alsaplay should also work, but you must speci

I'd like to be able to use the surround40 with my cs46xx card. Where can
I get the latest Alsa libs?
If you want to live at the bleeding edge then checkout latest ALSA CVS
sources, read instructions at http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=27464
Maybe just copying the CS46xx.conf file to /usr
Benny, is any reason why 'surround40' device doesn't work with the CS46xx
driver? The configuration is in alsa-lib/src/conf/CS46xx.conf .
That looks good to me. Doing some quick tests with xine surround40 seems
to work
just fine.

Hi everybody,
I have a great deal of problems to get 5.1 sound to work when I play
DVD:s. I use alsa 0.9.0rc6 and mplayer 0.90pre9 as my DVD player. If I
try "mplayer -channels 6 -dvd 1" the only thing I get is the front
speakers and nothing else, no center, no LFE. I also tried "mplayer
-chann
same problem for me and my DMX XFire 1024 :-(.
I think the distortion sounds like a DC offset introduced by the PCM
channel. Do you also get popping noise when changing the PCM volume? It
just sounds like changing the supply voltage of a running amplifier for
me. Perhaps I can measure the DC level
Benny, thanks a lot for your new DSP code. Hardware mixing works great!
I didn't test variable period sizes up to now because I'm using Mandrake
RPMs at the moment. So, patching isn't possible right now, but I'll
change back to tarballs or cvs soon :-). Btw, do you have any idea how
to get 4 indep

The SPDIF input is still very experimental and buggy, the SPDIF output
should work fine, the only thing you
need to do is to tu
