It used to work when I was using redhat type distro, now that I have
ubuntu. I just cannot get a peep out of my midi controller. It may be
hotplug (I have grown to hate it). So my questions are.
1) How do I enable the gameport on SB-Live for midi input. I have

Problem resolved.
After some research on the web, and experimenting with newer kernel and
alsa versions (by using Fedora Core 5 in a spare hard disk), I came to
the conclusion that alsa does not support my card at all.
Alsa was disabled and removed from all entries (e. g. gconf,
gstreamer-pr

Aplay's module for reading .wav files does not support Mu-Law.
