Hi, how are you?
I use Redhat9.
I installed ALSA driver for my 'via' on-board sound card.
The installation seemed to be o.k at the beginning. However, as I
tried to execute the commands like 'modprobe snd-via82xx', I get the
error message saying that
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/sound/pci/snd-

Well no more chipmunks! Thanks Preben.
I've heard scary stories about the 2.6 kernels and corrupting hard disks.
I think Gentoo has an uber development kernel in their portage tree but
that seems a bit much just to elimi
I am trying to build alsa for my layla 24.
I am a new linux user - I switched when a driver for the layla 24 came out.
I'm running gentoo linux.
I had the alsa driver emerged through the gentoo portage system but the
snd-echoaudio module is not included, and when I decided to try and compile

I finally got it right! Ok I am running Mandrake 9.1 on a Sony
PCG-V505BX. My original modules.conf was this:

probeall usb-interface usb-ohci ehci-hcd

alias sound-slot-0 i810_audio

Hi
I am trying to get my Soundblaster 16 VibraX ISA running.
Searching this list for days was not a success.
I run Debian Woody with a self-compiled 2.4.18 kernel.
ALSA is 0.9.0beta12.
I did not use alsaconfig since it did not work for me.
That´s what I did by hand:
/etc/modutils/alsa:

Upgrade to 2.6.0-test5. It works.

I'm running an HP ZT1180, RedHat 9. Everything builds fine, but when I
attempt to do the modprobe portion of the destructions, I get the
following:
/lib/modules/2.4.20-19.9/kernel/sound/pci/snd-via82xx.o: init_module: No
such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters

If you have a recent ALSA version, the module parameter don't have the
"snd_" prefix anymore, so you'd use "modprobe snd-

I have upgraded from Mandrake 9.0 to Mandrake 9.1. I have an Via 8235 card...
On 9.0 i had no problems with the sound.
On 9.1, despide the fact that all seems to work properly (no errors on loading
modules, alsa-mixer works!) i still have no sound!
Maybe the new driver is smarter than me...

Hi figured out myself howto set up the mic.
But I hear something from the speakers when I use my microphone, it makes an
echo, can somebody tell me how to disable this ?
Also I got a poor quality record, any idea how to enhance the quality ?
I am using an sblive!
Thanks

An interesting file would be /etc/modules.conf.

It's probably one volume setting for both channels.

Hi,
It looks like your sound card(driver) doesn't support hardware
mixing. Use dmix plugin or sound server (esound, arts, ...).
