I have seen this question posted recently but noone replied to this

G'day mate!
Did you have any config probs under gentoo? I've had a
few quirks under debian with the file hierarchy and
all. Anyway, I usually just use a program like kmix,
set it to the volume settings I prefer, save the
current volume as the default and everytime a program
changes it, fire up kmix
I'm running Debian Woody r1 and got alsa 0.91 and my
nvidia drivers working after I did a kernel
compilation (ask if me you need any help with that). I
had to do some hacking about with a few files here and
there to get alsa working in the end too, giz a shout

Hi,
I've been trying to get midi playback to work for about 2 days now,
without any luck.
I am running Redhat 9.0 w/ kernel 2.4.20-18.9
I compiled ALSA 0.9.4 myself as follows:
# for ALSA drivers
./configure --with-isapnp=no --with-cards=cmipci --with-sequencer=yes
make
make insall

I downloaded alsa-driver .9.4, the
lib, and utils too.
I go to compile it, driver first, I untar,
then I run configure
debian:~/downloads/alsa-driver-0.9.4#
./configure --with-kernel=/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.16
--with-card=emu10k1 --with-sequencer=yes --with-isapnp=no
that completes,

At first, i never try to use alsa before a week ago. But i am a "linux

know what i am doing.
Here's the issue:
My sound card is a Sound Blaster AWE64 ISA PNP (before this, working ok
with OSS).
I am ussing Debian/Sid with gcc3

that means that everybody can use those devices...
I modified the 'snddevices' script to do so (setting all /dev/[alsa

Now, I'm using the kernel 2.4.21 and alsa 0.9.4 but my problem persists.
But, when I activate arts (with alsa), the sound in other application

I seem to have come to the bottom of this one in some further

Hello
I've browsed the list archive, but it hasn't helped me much with this. Maybe
I should begin by describing what I'm trying to accomplish.
I have some 3D OpenGL game engines installed. d1x, d2x (that is Descent and
Descent II), Vavoom (Doom, Heretic and the like) and possibly a couple mor

Apparently, the file /dev/snd/controlC0D0 is missing.
Please go to the alsa-driver directory and run "./snddevices".
UPDATED AND CORRECTED.
Yeah, that did the trick, amixer works now
Fabulous!
I recompiled my kernel, adding usbdevfs support, and added the line to
my fstab. The midisport works wonderfully now. It didn't start
automatically on bootup, but when I unplugged/replugged it loaded the
firmware fine. I will add the line to my modules.conf to see if I can
get it

The problem is that, yes, the controls are there, yes, you can get a mixer control
panel, but it doesn't actually do anything. The output level is always "full", mixer
setting makes no difference. Is there something else that needs configuration?

What rights does the devices have?
Maybe you've missed to set +rw(?) to the audio group?
(on my laptop i cheated and set 777 on the devices, ohwell ;)

Well, the controls are there. What exactly did you mean with "the
