I am running kernel 2.2.23 and I have two sound cards : Hercules
Gamesurround Fortissimo II and an older Opti924 ISA card.
I got alsa-driver-0.9.0rc7.
In kernel I have enabled sound support, OSS support and Plug'n'Play
support. (ofcourse, loadable modules).
With alsa-driver:

Hello,
I just got an Hercules Fortissimo III soundcard and i'm trying to use
the IEC958 TOSLINK Output (optical out). I cannot get any sound on it,

I just read about the existence of dmix that apparently enables /dev/dsp

Does it poll both I and O or just O? (i.e. can the mic input be shared
among several apps)
Any help is appreciated! Sincerely,
Ico

Thanks for the reply. A couple of questions:
Where do you put this?

hw (if the stuff is blacklisted)?
How can we make this user-friendly? (i.e. no user interaction -> plug
'n' use).
Ico
Hi all,
After several correspondence between the CCRMA's Linux audio guru
Fernando and myself, I realized that Alsa really needs (as Fernando has

I'm trying to use my SB audigy EX card, w/the oss drivers. I can only
play xmms using the alsa driver (which works wonderful, btw, optical out
& everything) however, things like gmplayer, and flashplayer wont. Heres
a list of the modules I have installed:
sound
snd-seq-midi
snd-emu10k1-synth
snd-e

Hi,
I use alsa-0.9.0rc7 and aplay on my intel8x0 &
