voices are duplicated. How about recording? Say I connect a synth to ins 1 and
2 and an amp to ins 3 and 4, can I record the signal to two different files?
Are the ins handled seperately?

Recompiling the ALSA drivers from the latest cvs fixed the problem
with the computer locking up hard.

You both need to be using the cs4236 module.. Here are some
sample settings, for the default configuration of my Thinkpad 600E:

Please, try 0.9.0rc6.. Also, you might set DAC volumes with alsamixer.

I have a Terratec 24/96 EWX with optical in/out which is supported by alsa.
But its rather expensive.
You can go to www.alsa-project.org and find out which cards is supported.

When my laptop tries to use snd-via82xx.o it hard locks immediately.
Strangely, if I first use the OSS via82cxxx_audio.o, unload those
modules then load the ALSA snd-via82xx.o it works fine. This happened
in both 0.9.0rc3 and 0.9.0rc5. The snd-via82xx.o module in 2.5.47-ac4
works w
