Hi List (especially Joshua),
Joshua I noticed your post while looking through the list archive. I
have had very similar problems. I am using Mandrake as my distro -- I
haven't updated my kernel to the latest yet (have to do that), but I too
have got sound to work (in both kde and gnome), but i

I don't have your card, so I'm stabbing in the dark a little,
but it looks to me like you need lines like
alias sound-slot-0 sb
in your /etc/modules.conf file. I use a vanilla soundblaster,
so I alias mine to "sb". You'll have to do something different
there.

Hi,
Apologies for such lame questions, but I've just installed ALSA and a
soundcard and am having some problems. This is a new computer - I've never
bothered with computer audio before - and fullish details of the
configuration are at http://www.acooke.org/andrew/writing/tonto.html#alsa

Greetings:
I read the recent posts regarding a GUI for alsamixer and I
downloaded, built, and installed gamix as suggested. It's pretty neat, I
like the overall design, but it is very flaky and segfaults often. I
don't mind using alsamixer itself in an xterm, but I would like to have

Takashi,
I applied the patch to a fresh alsa-driver, compiled and installed the drivers,
rebooted.. All modules loaded fine but still no gameport. I have joystick
support in kernel as modules. At boot, after alsa modules, I load joydev,
followed by grip. The result is grip, joydev, input, and gam

Hello!
I don't really understand how aconnect works.
My current setup is:
$ aconnect -i

1 'Announce'
client 64: 'External MIDI 0' [type=kernel]
0 'MIDI 0-0'

Hi Erik,
try the patch attached (for ALSA 0.9.0). The joystick mechanism has
been changed on 2.4 kernel. Please make sure to enable joystick
support on your kernel config.
As you described, you don't have to use ns558. Just load joydev,
analog (or other) modules.
The input device file is dep

I usually get the new kernels when they come out, from ftp.kernel.org
if you need specific help with the kernel, you can email me directly.

What's the good word on the hoontech dsp24? Did someone ever write a
driver for it? Or does the generic envy24 driver work fine.
And what about the ADC/DAC unit that comes bundled with it: dsp2000,
also known as the C-Port. Does that need special support, or does the
driver handle it automagic
Hi Patrick

Wrong. This cards advertises as having a GM ( General Midi ), both GS
and XG ( Yamaha standard ) fully compatible synthetizor built in.
Hi,
I pulled the lastest CVS from sourceforge and compiled, what happens is that
music is played for a couple of secs (too fast) and then stops or blocks
using "aplay".
Whenever I start KDE, the opening songs takes a lot of time to play, it plays
only when I load the processor - so when the pr

Randy,
Browse http://linuxmafia.org, download alsa 0.9 packages (driver, util, lib &
oss), and follow up instructions to build alsa-driver.tgz.
You'll probably have to upgrade your kernel, as in my experience alsa 0.9
didn't run on 2.4.5 (unresolved symbols after depmod -a). With a newer kernel
