We will soon be moving away from using AIX scripts to backup Oracle databases, and
will be using RMAN.
Could anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can find out more about how
RMAN interacts with TSM, what is needed, etc and how it works?.

backup of everything EARLY morning?...The reason I
do the db backup IMMEDIATELY before we send the tapes off, is that at least we then
know that we can recover up to the time the tapes go off...
Anyone have any better recommendations or suggestions?.

d 99.9% of the backups are
done overnight, so there is no problem with performance issues.
Am I missing something here, or is it REALLY a better idea to forget about compression

We run a backup of our tape pool every day to our copy tape pool which we then send
offsite.
Can we tell how much data in the primary pool is to be backed up?...This way, we can
see how much longer the backup stgpool will take..

absolutely AGES to restore 47gig, but we managed it quite
happily in around 2 and a half to 3 hours.
What is the aggregate rate telling me here??..thats its only transferring 500 meg a
second, or am I reading this incorrectly???
