Re: looking for experiences with the ibm 3584 library

We have been using a 3584 for about 12 years and have had no issues at all with it. The only time it has been "down" is for firmware upgrades, replacing tape drives (upgrade from LTO2 to LTO4), and when we moved to our new datacenter. Very stable and a great workhorse. We use it only for TSM, b

2007-10-01 Thread Dollens, Bruce
I have a question that I feel a little stupid in asking. What is the difference between migration and backup primary (disk) to copy (tape)? I am working on changing my scheduling up and the recommended order of steps I was given is: Backup clients Migration Backup primary to copy Backup db Expi

Thanks for the help and another question

Thanks for all the answers regarding Migration. That helped me understand it better. I have a couple of servers that I have been asked to install the UDB/DB2 TSM software on. Is this available on the ftp site? Has anyone had any luck installing and configuring it? Thanks!

NAS Restore

2009-05-15 Thread Dollens, Bruce
We just recently added an IBM N series NAS and using TSM NDMP to back up our data nightly. We are going to be doing a DR in a couple of weeks and we do not have a NAS at our test site and will build a huge server to restore the data to. How will we restore to an alternate location if it is not a

We have been waiting to upgrade to the latest TSM version, but due to our NDMP backups and lack of a TOC in Version 6 of TSM we are still at 5.4.3.2 (about to move to 5.5). Has this been resolved yet in the 6.x releases? Thanks, Bruce Dollens CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT: The foregoing message (

TSM Manual backups

I know that this is a probably a simple question. I am wanting to run a manual backup and put it directly on tape . The node is already defined and assigned to a domain that backs up to disk and is then migrated to disk. Is there a way to do a backup straight to tape without changing the domai

Copy Pool

2008-06-04 Thread Dollens, Bruce
We recently upgraded from LTO2 drives to LTO4 drives in our 3584 library. We have around 200 LTO2 tapes in our offsite storage pool that we would like to get moved over to LTO4 before the end of July. Is there an easy way to do this? I know with our onsite pool we can migrate it, but if I remembe

New TSM Layout

2008-07-31 Thread Dollens, Bruce
We are in the process of designing our new TSM server. As part of this we are also going to give it new SAN drive space. Currently we have 661 Gig in our disk pool and we are upping that to 900 Gig. What our questions is how should we partition that? Our current pool is in 7 partitions but I w
