Hi Steve,
In the Tivoli\TSM\TDPExchange directory can you find a tool called MAPITEST or
TESTMAPI.
Run that tool to verify that your MAPI settings are correct. If no, then can
you run the same command with /debug and get full information why you can't

Folks:
We are struggling here with the bewildering variety of power management
options introduced in Windows 7. In particular, we are trying to determine
what settings enable a scheduled backup when said backup is managed by the

Hello All,
Thanks for your help!!
I have a client that selected TSMĀ to replace their CA/Brightstore product.
When we showed up for the kickoff meeting, the IT manager said that he wants to
be able to create full backups of his mission critical servers when a hurricane

Yes, you can restore your TSM server with a single drive.
Just the same procedures you would use at a DR site with a library.
Install TSM server code on your machine
Define a library with TYPE=MANUAL
Define your 1 drive to that library
Use the admin command line to open a tape console (or you
If you can choose to have the client run the task instead of having the CAD run
it, I'd setup a task on the client to run and "wake-up" the machine to run it
if it is not running. If that is not an option, you might try some
"wake-on-lan" option.

I restarted the server, no difference, It happens to be a Windows 2003 cluster.
Any idea why it takes so long.

"During server initialization, Tivoli Storage Manager server will access

If the library inventory has changed, it will be refreshed at that time."
Does this sound correct?

Depending on the size of the restore, you might consider replacing the single
tape drive with a small NAS disk device with deduplication such as a Data
Domain, Quantum or Netapp. This device could be configured to contain an
active data pool for the MC servers as well as a backup of the TSM dat

Thanks, Ray. We have been able to restore the mailbox with another tool, IBM's
SMBR, once we mount the mailbox database. So, it is definitely in the database.
As for where the email account resides when it is backed up, I'm not sure what
you mean (sorry, not a Windows person).

OK, Christian, I ran "tdpmapi testmapi" and was told all is well. #%$! I'm
starting to suspect some obscure MS MAPI bug or feature.

I bet you've got a lot of little files on at least one of the drives. The
three hours is used comparing all those little darlings with the TSM server's
idea of things, before anything gets backed up at all. - Margaret Clark

That's the time it takes to query the TSM server for the inventory of Active

Do a Q SESSION (from the server) during that 3 hour wait.
If you see BYTES SENT on one of the sessions to this client getting larger and
larger during the wait, that's the server sending the metadata down to the
client. In that case yes, journaling will help.

Check the TCPWINDOWSIZE setting on the client side. If you're using
something larger than the default (which happens to be 63), this can
actually be counterproductive, as the network may eventually start to
shrink the window. I've seen users try to set a larger value than the
default, and get bit b
Hi all -
Does anyone know if IBM is requiring customers to convert grandfathered per
node licensing to PVU licensing? Is it just for new licenses you want to
purchase, or is there some conversion calculation? I'm lost in tivoli
licensing land.
Try to upgrade TSM Client to the latest version (there is APAR from IBM). I
have fixed similar problem by upgrading to 6.2.1.1 (6.2.1.2 now). I think
latest 6.1.3 has the same fix as well.

I think you have to convert to PVU licenses (core-based) or TB licenses
(something new from IBM). We converted to PVU licenses recently (very expensive
action). So it is better to to try TeraByte license schema.
