Not 100% sure on the HP Bladecenters, but I do have experience with the
IBM ones - probably all of a muchness.
The IBM ones can either use passthru modules (which present every port of
the dual port card on each blade) or switches. From what you are saying,
I'd have thought you have swi

Hi Steven,
Thanks for your thoughts - disk resilience between the two ports on the
blade is an unmoveable for the customer, so sharing disk and tape traffic
over the same ports is really the only option, if the SAN Storage Agent is
to be used. After opening a query with IBM about this config, thei
Hi Robert,
When TSM performs system state backup, it asks the operating system (via
VSS) for the list of files that are part of system state. TSM then attempts
to back these files up. If the file cannot be found, then the system state
backup will stop (as you have seen). Therefore it would seem th

Steve,
If you are restoring legacy backup into an RSG... you do NOT need to use
the "Restore Into" dialog box. The "Restore Into" dialog box (right-click)
is only used for VSS backups.
For Legacy restores into the RSG, you only need to have the RSG defined

Steve.
While performing restore into the Recovery Storage Group, you want to ensure
that you add the database for the SG and MS that you are trying to restore to
your RSG. You do those steps with the Exchange management console; after
creating the RSG, right-click on it and select Add database
David,
I used to think that sharing disk and tape on the same HBA was only FUD
spread to make you buy the bigger server. I used mixed disk and tape on
windows servers from HP, Dell and IBM for years without a hitch.
However, within the last 12 months I had a customer with 4 IBM Xseries

Hi Buddy,
I'm afraid I have to disagree somewhat. You've only described the
"fullvm" backup option, and that's not what most people use, at least on
Windows.
The TSM default behaviour is actually to back up individual files from
each guest (windows) to each node set up for that guest. Doing
Every time we snapshot a VM, we have the option of doing the entire farm
or just a single vm. When we do a single VM, we are getting the entire
machine, not just what changed. We use the B/A client to get the
individual file level changes. If we dump the entire farm, we get

Actually the response from me below was to someone that didn't want to use
the B/A client to get the individual file level changes. We back up VMs
both ways. We had our first DR test using VMs last Feb in Boulder, CO at
IBM and everything went without a problem.

Hi Gary,
Go to the link in my sig and do a search on MOMLOG. I think you will find

I ordered media for TSM for Databases 5.5. The CDs I received are labeled Data

I recently downloaded a 5.5.1 TDP for Oracle for Solaris package
(C1CQ0ML.tar.gz) from IBM Passport Advantage, and there's a 5.5.1.1 patch
also available on the IBM FTP site
(ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/patches/tivoli
-data-protection/oracle/solaris/SPARC64/v5511/).

Folks:
We are working on rolling out the TSM client for Windows v6 to our campus,
anticipating the eventual Windows 7 landslide that is going to hit.
A major concern: as IBM is now delivering its own JRE as part of the

I was running an export from a 5.5.3 server to my 6.1.2 server. Of
course, the 6.1.2 server crashed (any reasonable activity seems to kill

Wanda,
Running your proxy on a tsm server would allow you to use sharedmemory instead
of network transfer, which theoretically should help. The question is whether
the 2 apps will play nice together, good luck getting either side to formally
approve the setup, although it sounds like a good id
