We use LTO2 & LTO3 in a 3584 and the CE always sets the serial number to
match the old one so that we don't have this problem, same as Sean.

Jane.

Hi Everyone,
This is more a AIX question then a TSM question.
But I wonder if their is any command such

The reason why I'm asking is beause one of my tape drives it totally gone from

Hi Christian,
On AIX you can indeed use lsdev -Cctape to see your tape devices.
My best guess to what you describe is that the path from the drive to
the host is failing. So have a look a the library and all SAN components
to see if you can see the drive there.
Also is your TSM server a standalon
Sounds like AIX has lost the drive, so duff drive, zoning etc...
You could do a cfgmgr -vl (name of fcs port the tape is down) to do a
quicker cfgmgr.
errpt -a will give you more info.
Have we got multiple drives down the same HBA? i.e. is the hba & cable
good?

Log onto your san switch and see if you see the tape drive connected on the
switch port it's attached to.

You are correct in that the TS3500 (3584)'s drive WWN are tied to the Drive
Cage. But the serial number goes with the drive. But the FE are supposed to
move the old drive's serial number into the replacement drives for LT03 and
higher.

Sean,
Not much help to offer here but, I have been involved in many LTO drive
replacements in 3584s and have never changed any hardware serial number.
The only serial number that needs to change is the one TSM is using in its
drive definition which should automatically get picked up on the TSM dri
The trick is maintaining ownership of the tapes. Once the library manager is
moved you will need to checkin all of the tapes as private with the correct
owner to the new library manager. This will include all the tapes not
currently in the library.

I am looking for any TSM sites that backup Macs, that are using FileVault
to encrypt user data. We are trying to figure out a workable strategy for
backing up via TSM. If you are doing this, please contact me off-list.

Off the top of my head, Wanda, I wonder if Gresham's library

Wanda,
My solution isn't much better, but here goes:
1) Like you said, define 1 manual library, 1 device class, with 4 LTO4

2) You will be using the IBM drives, of course, so I am presuming the
IBM drivers will be installed b
Hello,
you can create 4 copypools instead of one. In this case you could use the 4
libraries in parallel.
