Amen, amen amen!!!
I still use the good old GUI which still works as long as you don't
click on the storagepools option. (a q stgpool format=gui returns an
internal error).
New TSM customers really should take a look at it (It's part of the
Windows 3.1 client and can be installed separately). I
Hi All,
I'm performing a restore and find that the file ownerships are not restored
correctly.
Someone chown'ed all the files recursively yesterday so I want to restore
to a new location and used the restored files to recover the correct
ownerships.
As root user I use the following command:
dsmc
I'd also like the "make an archive from backup" facility - Implemented
in a similar way to restore: Select files (at a point in time if
required) using either command-line or GUI - Then instead of restoring,
add the files to a specified archive.

Just to confirm that I understood correctly, with a Unix system, if a files
permission is changed, then backed up, TSM is unable to the restore the
files with the previous permissions. It will only restore the files with
the latest backup permissions?
Is this also the case in other OS's like Netwa

Hi List !
Maybe a trivial question but:
Is it possible to have multiple storage agent instances on the same
machine (unices) ?
Thank you,
Pierre
Yes,
You would do it the same way as multiple TSM servers on the same
hardware.

Hello Everyone,
I placed a call with TSM support regarding the Client GUI not showing
the directory structure and they told me that when the directory
structure expires you can no longer use the GUI for restores. An option

Something like readline used for the command line client, so we could
get vi-style-editing (ok, fine, or emacs for the heathens) & history

Why embed? Instead of just Ruby, how about the ability for the server
to execute a given shell- or perl- (or even ruby- :-) script. Then

You have to specify a different Management Class for directory (MC_DIR
parameter) with NOLIMIT for retention (or a time greater than all other
policies).
Now, to do your restore, you could use dsmc query backup -filesonly to
show your files backed up and use it in dsmc restore.

No, directories get bound to the management class with the longest retention,
not the shortest. I can't quite figure how a file in a directory wouldn't
expire before the directory it was in expired. The directory would have been
backed up when the file was touched last so I would think that di

Hello Yudong
you need to create two libraries, both of type manual, with one drive in
each
