Hi All
We have been asked to do full backups this coming weekend to a different
storage pool than normal. The data will then also be copied to a
separate copy storage pool. This copied storage pool will be taken to an
offsite location for restores. They are doing this so the first restores

I'm finding it difficult to understand why horrible performance
is taking so long to correct in a product that costs so darn much to run
on UNIX platforms compared to Intel, but I'll restrain myself for now.
I wonder why you would release a product at all that performs that
badly, and then
If the reason to do the full backups is to speed up the restore of
certain clients, that will certainly work. We have used
copymode=absolute for that purpose. Of course, you will have to go
through the regular DRM routine of setting up TSM, restoring the TSM
database, defining your tape libraries
Has anyone seen this error:
Windows client 5.4.1.0.
Backing up using
MEMORYEFFICIENTBACKUP DISKCACHEMETHOD
DISKCACHELOCATION "c:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM"
Seeing the following failure:

I was just about to ask the same question...
I'm running v5.5.0.4 client, v5.4.2.0 server.

I could imagine that problem occurring if the permissions on the
DISKCACHELOCATION area are too restrictive for the invoker. Try
changing to a more neutral location than the client install directory
and see if the error goes away. See the Tivoli Storage Manager

Greetings,
Does anyone know if symbolic links are distinguishable as objects in
the TSM Database backups table (they look like regular "FILE"
entries), or if they are distinguishable at the client (save for the
fact they are tiny)?
Thank you.

We at VCU (Richmond, VA) have a "campus" at Doha, Qatar (approximate
distance is 7K miles.
We are discussing the viability/possibility of having TSM clients in Qatar
backing up to our TSM servers, here in Richmond!
Is this possible? Feasible?
What are the implication of such a long distance ba
Dumb question, I know, but how would one schedule a delete filespace to run,
especially if it prompts me with the "Are you sure?" when I run it manually?
Thanks!
God bless you!!!

I run this all the time from the an OS shell, and it does not prompt me. I
think it only prompts when you are logged into the administrative client
interactively.

OK, I've scheduled them with the 'at' command (TSM is on AIX server) like so:
# at 18:30
dsmadmc -servername=tsm2 -id=bc03cb1 -pa=isaiah "del fi ehim_archive_28 *"
Ctrl^D
Job root.1205883000.a will be run at Tue Mar 18 18:30:00 CDT 2008.
And so on...

Hi list,
I have to restore the VIP Storage Group from Exchange, but I cannot do it on
the original location to avoid overwriting the files and exchange databases
that are there now. Can I do this? Where do I specify a new location to restore
these files?
Mario
This message is in regard to the posts that have been made
recently to the ADSM listserv regarding performance issues resulting from
upgrading the TSM client to V5.4. After discussing this with Andy and other
developers at IBM, we have the following information regarding this issue:
