Thanks for the info. I just heard back from IBM support and because our
second frame to the library was added after our original install, TSM
does not see it. We need to take an outage and delete/define all paths,
library, drives and check all tapes back in. A little bit ugly.

Looking for help...TSM 5.4.1.1 on WIndows2003 running the latest IBM tape
driver. The library and drives are at the latest firmware
as of about 2-weeks ago. The drives have application encryption enabled. This
was done through the CE interface on the back of the
drives. A query of the drive VPD d
Hi,
One of the problems we have had in the past with a 3584 hogging slots not
known to TSM is if the VIRTUAL IO is enabled. Check this from the web based
library login under LIBRARY > VIRTUAL IO .
The other problem you will have after that is identifying the volumes in the
library not assigned t
Sounds like time to do an audit of the library.
We have these kinds of issue with our "wonderful" 3583 libraries and it is
usually due to the TSM info/audit being out of sync with libraries info.
We do audits all the time, especially after we have to power-recycle the
libraries, which is at least
I have the EKM set up doing library managed encryption. It works well
once it is set up and takes any TSM dependencies out of the picture. It
also allows me to push off most of the encryption maintenance to our
security group.
IBM's encryption expertise for open systems has been underwhelming.

Do you code DB2 parameter LOGARCHMETH1 & 2? My thinking is that since
db2adutl finds logs you ARE coding LOGARCHMETH1 at least. DB2 logs as of
db2 8.2 are archived as TSM archive objects. This means they have a defined
retention period expressed in days since archival.

That is ugly. We didn't have to do that when we expanded our 3494. Yes, we
had to redefine devices/paths, but that was because of the SAN and the way
it found the devices and obviously the change in device types, but not the
library size/slot count.
Glad to hear you resolved it.

I've never sent to the listserv before, so we'll so how this goes. In
short we have a IBM 3584 library. Through the specialist interface, I
can see that we have 399 slots available in the tape library. However,
when running the checkin command on our weekly offsite tape returns, I
receive the fo
I am not sure there is an answer for this problem:
We are running a "test" audit before we upgrade our TSM server. The
audit appears that it will take about 200 hours to complete. Upgrading
the DB and starting TSM took 15 minutes total.
The software is AIX 5.3 running TSM 5.4.0.0. The hardware
A little late to help you out now, but there are instructions out there
for expanding your library.
