Hi Timothy,
please have a look at

One of the node was deleted on our server last Thursday. And now our customer
wants a file from the node. Is there any way to get that file restored from
the deleted node. I appreciate any input.

Theoretically you could restore a TSM database backup to before the
deletion occurred. As long as the media upon which that clients data
had not been reclaimed and reused, you can get that data back. Lots of
mights and maybes in the process and taking your production server back
several days is a
Only IF you still have TSM DB backup from then - and the
Data Tapes haven't been reused!
You have to restore DB back to then - means totally shutting
down your production TSM server to do this.

about the only chance you might have is to restore the TSM DB from that day
prior to the delete. If the volume(s) holding the backups have not been
reallocated and still contain the data, then you could restore. Impractical
for the restoration of a file unless it is critical.

This is because in order to do this, you have to roll the WHOLE database
back to that point in time, right? Wouldn't this mean that you would
lose the history of backups for the last few days, right?
Would some variation of the following work? Yes, they're all painful,
but they're less damaging
hello,
environment:
windows 2000, tsm 5.2.4
after stopping tsm server for canceling a "deadlock" situation (there was
move data and backup stgp for the same big file) and tsm
processes do not work for almost 1 hour, the tsm server restart hang.

Hi guys,
I have a client that has too many volumes off library, about (100 volumes),
and each time it request a restore, it take about 20 volumes, and mostly off
times this volumes is offsite,
Well i know it's a sizing problem, but this is not the question here,
The client bought 3 knew library
As a "thought experiment"
- Yes, if you restore your database to an alternate server and the volume(s)
have not been reclaimed, that would be the way to do it.
You don't mention your tape library or configuration. I'm thinking if your
original TSM server was a library client then yes, if:

I'm trying to understand your situation
The new library is the same as the old but larger...more slots?
-storage pools defs reference device classes
-device class defs reference libraries
So, I'm thinking, you might be able to
- check the remaining volumes out of the current library
- update
IBM Technote 1177718 generally addresses that situation.
As other contributors have said, there needs to be a whopping good
reason to go through what would need to be done, even if it's at all
possible (particularly, if Reusedelay covers the period).
Given the finality of a node removal from TSM,

I don't see a "hit" on evidenced keywords in the TSM APARs, so some
context may help in this...
- What operation is being performed?
- Is this the first time this has been attempted, or is this something
which has worked in the past?
- Have there been any substantial changes in t
