Are you running W2K3 SP1 ?
The whole VSS thing was very flakey pre SP1 and there were a number of
MS hot fixes relating to VSS.

Richard,
Certainly take a look at the newer 5.3
TSM client versions of journaling, if you haven't already, as there are
many improvements over 5.2's and below at this level (including a new B-tree
based journal DB which is much more reliable and isn't limited to 2GB in
size). Otherwise, can you t

Hi Folks,
TSM client 5.2.4 on W3K sp4, Server 5.2.4.5 on W2K sp4.
I've been attempting to update the TSM client scheduler with a changed

completes the supposed update, I check the dsmsched.log and it's the

I posted this to the list last week, but for some reason I have not
been getting the digest, so I decided I better post it again in case people

I think a reboot will get rid of the "marked for deletion" service.
Then you should be able to reinstall it.

I believe IBM TSM is working on this. I opened a PMR with TSM, and the

Actually, it is my understanding that CDP does *not* use the same Windows
API function (ReadDirectoryChangesW) that JBB uses. Rather, it is a kernel
filter.

I stand corrected - now I've just gotta
go and figure out what a kernel filter is (that'll be a different mailing
list I'm sure)...

My experience for Journal Based Backup is that it does not fix problems
you can run in when single filesystem has millions of files/dir's in a
single filespace and you get the "ran out of memory" symptom, the reason
is that you must complete one non-journal based incremental backup before

There is a registry entry under TSM scheduling service that needs to

Hi Everybody,
I currently have a TSM 5.1.6 ( AIx 4.3.3 ) server which will be migrated to a

and if so, what was your experience like ?

Just added one 6 months ago, to a base L32 frame.
Depends on the base frame, minor differences in physical mounting.
I think it took about 2 hours, I had 2 drives in my D52 though.
Even without the drives, with slot config change, after they are
done you need to halt and restart TSM server to pi
I am not an expert on filter and other Windows drivers, but basically a
filter driver is a piece of software that runs in kernel (privileged)
mode, so it has access to the system memory and hardware. It gets its name
because it "filters" (intercepts and manipulates) I/O requests. For
example, a

The Tivoli main site is a good jumping-off point:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/sysmgmt/products/support/IBMTivoliStorageManager.html
Then you can click on "Product Documentation".

Nancy,
Since the problem in your case appeared when you upgraded from AIX
5.3 ML 2 to ML3, it should be easy to go through the /smit.log to figure out
what filesets got upgraded. There will be long list, but most of them can
be eliminated from consideration.

Dave,
I believe that DB backups will not be deleted unless you tell them to. I
have created an administrative schedule that runs daily and deletes DB
backups, keeping only the last three. The command is:
