Hi to all
I want to export nodes from one server to another one don't have server to server
connection , I have 19 nodes ( on 39 DLT cartridges) my output server is on SDLT
cartridges , the amount of data is around 1 Tera.
Can anybody give me an estimation of time to export and import those nod
Hello List!
Can anyone give some links about the subject?
Or maybe some quick hints from experts?
One important factor will be the distribution of the data across the
cartridges. If it is very intermixed the export time will be
significantly longer than it would be if the data were collocated, for
example.

Chapter 23 is about using disaster recovery manager. This is a usefull
read and a place to start if you are onsiting / offsiting tape volumes.

As the quickfacts say, this is nearly always network configuration
issues. We were seeing them recently and traced the problem back to a
pair of etherchanneled 1gbit adapters, and the configuration of the
switch ports they were attatched to.

A stab in the dark, but is the O/S killing the process because of

Y'know, I'd never thought of doing it like that! I tend to get my
scripts to query TSM and extract the nodenames and loop through them.
Never clicked that I could use select that way!

A good practice, Matt. Most of the commands accept wildcards only for queries:

Within my TSM server there are many GB of disk pool allocated, but
the morning report this morning shows only 16.4% utilization (this
is generated from TSM Operational Reporting). Is this value meaning

Use DRM.
There was one question that I will comment on below.
I don't need to address the others since Mark answered
them brilliantly.
Thanks,

It will be indicating the current utilization of the diskpool. IE; the
amount of space within the diskpool that is currently occupied by TSM
data.

Is there a way to find the max utilization during the night?

My Linux guru checked the ulimit values and said it was pretty much
unlimited !
What would I check ? How would I check it ? What is the realistic limit
?
I do know that when we navigated down the suspected filesystem dir and did
backups of individual sub-sub-dirs, the file counts were in the 5
I have some issues/questions with this suggestion !
Can I assume you really ment something more reasonable like 500MB not 5GB,

I still don't/won't have enough disk space to handle something like this !
The backup stream would overrun the disk

their current TSM envirnment to back it up.
TSM server is 5.1.7.1 on Windows2000.
Solaris client would be the latest available...

It depends upon what you mean by "reasonable". I've got a customer that

Hi everybody,
I am facing a weird AUDIT command behavior.
I run TSM 5.1.8 server on AIX4.3 and have two ultrium libraries 3583 and

library failed. Only reboot of aix plus switching power off for that
library helped. Now library
where there any tapes in use at the time?

You can not run audit lib while any other process or session is using
tapes. Might that be your problem?

Yes, that was the case. I killed all processes and dismount all tapes.
Only after that it started to work. But I remember that in previous
versions audit gave a message to remove tapes from the drives.
Thank you for you help.

Over the last weekend we had a tape get stuck in a drive and threw the drive
offline, no big deal, right? This happens enough that we know how to deal
with it, but... this is the first time that this has happened (in my limited

I understand your point but my issue is that I have to make it work with

It is going to have to go directly-to-tape. Now way around it. I am just
trying to figure out how to make it perform, the best.
Besides, I don't think it is rea
Just use the upd libv command to change the status from scratch to private.
TSM will skip that tape and go on to the next scratch tape.

Luc,
Is a full backup "enough" for what?
A Data Protection for SQL "FULL" backup can be used to
restore a complete database. When a full backup is
taken it also captures pieces of the log that it needs
to fully recover the database. You do not need a
separate "LOG" backup in order to perform a da
