Try to increase MESSAGEINTERVAL parameter in you server option file. You

Hi
This depends on how you mean. If you use server-to-server virtual volumes
communication, one of the TSM servers can have actual connection to the
device, but the other server(which can be located anywhere from the actual
device), wont have any SCSI/FC or any other direct connection. It will
Not exactly.
If it is on the SAN or on another TSM server (through virtual volumes) -
yes. There is no such thing as "media server" in TSM.

Hi Ray!
I too experienced core dumps with this level. Do install the 4.2.2.0 server
level, it contains a lot of fixes, including the server crashes fixes. My
server is running smoothly since.

Duh. I just noticed the 4.2.2.1 patches.
However, they are still *PATCHES*, not finalized !!!

I assume you mean using rmt type commands? ( like

I would be interested in seeing if this is possible too. My concern would
be having enought bandwidth to
keep a drive streaming.

I would say NO, that would cause you problems. When you restart the server
it will expect the files to still be in the disc pool if you skip item #2.
In this case you would have to do a restore stgpool to make the server
happy. You will not be saving any time by skipping item #2 and most likely,

Hi,
I think IBM wants you to have at least 2 copies of backups on tape media.
So, I would also recommend that.

Hi Guys,
I have a quick question for you
I am about to delete all of the promary disk storage pools for a
resizing and re-placement exercise.
IBM have given me their recommendations as:-
1. Backup stgpool.
2. Update lo mig and Hi mig to 0 to migrate everything to tape.
Now, am I right in sayi

Yes it does. We are currently running the TDP for R/3 on our APO servers.
I also know very little about SAP (luckily I have a very good Basis Team),
but I believe it is using the SAP Backint. We are looking into using RMAN
on our SAP Business Warehouse server.

Roy,
You don't have to do the backup of the diskpool first, but why wouldn't you?
That is what you should do every day anyway. If all the data in diskpool
has already been backed up to your copypool in your daily processing, it
will only take a few seconds and you'll have piece of mind when you

Joseph,
The device type server means that the tapes are actually idefined on
another TSM server which is called TSM-VLDB. You will have to log on to the
admin client of that server to find out the tapes..

I'm looking for a method of determining which clients have been
assigned a particular option set. I'm running TSM 4.1.4 on OS/390.
There's got to be something other than checking each client.

This device class points to a server that is being used to store "virtual
volumes" which will be seen as archive files on the server that this is
pointing to.
