Well I think an individule file needs to be contained with in an agragate.
Therefore the max size file TSM server could handel would be the max
addressable size of a single agragate. I am not certain what that size
limit is. However that does rase an interesting scenario. We know that

Good Day,
I am not sure if TSM loads the complete ACSLS inventory. I don't think so
however. However, TSM will only work with tapes that are checked in an
labled by TSM. Therfore you do not need to worry about TSM overwriting
the other applications tapes. Also if STK works similar to IBM's 34
Thanks Mark. I think we will try the solution with 3rd Party's.

Hello all,
I hope you can help me, we have two ADSM environments, one on OS390 and the

Hi Reiner ,
did you apply PTF SF53289 ? Did you try to increase buffer size to 512 in
API opt file ?
What is your CPU utilization during backup ? Are you backup libraries with
huge number of
small objects ? All this can influence throughput of backup process.
If you check AS/400 BRMS web page - t

Paul,
Since the schedule is a "command" type schedule and it
calls a batch file to run the actual commands,
the exit value of the cmd file is what is returned to
the scheduler status on the server.
On the TSM Server side, to be sure of the actual status
of the backup, you should query the server

My experience has been in this that I simply checkout the volume from the
first server with a remove=no and then check in as private into the second
server import and it seems to work fine.
Good luck

Another fix is to have the schedule run d:\runbackup.cmd, which contains
one line:
start d:\backup.cmd
This will let runbackup.cmd finish, showing successful completion of the
schedule, while letting the backup run for as long as it needs to. Since
you already have to check elsewhere to see if
Nick,
The way we do it is using the exit cbruxent. When you insert tapes into
the 3494, this mainframe OAM exit gets control and we use it to determine
which tapes get assigned to the mainframe and which tapes get ignored and
assigned a x'ff', insert code. We have a data set that the exit reads
We are thinking of purchasing a tape library, and
would like to get your take on these two different

Your input is much appreciated.

Good question about which tier in TSM the OpenVMS systems are. They are
Tier 1 clients so you will need tier 1 licenses on the server side.
You will also need to purchase the OpenVMS client from us or one of our
resellers. The product is called Archive Backup Client (ABC) and is
licensed based
We are using ACSLS-controlled libraries from an AIX TSM server.
We are not currently sharing, but I can give you a bit of information.
One, TSM will only use tapes for which you have run a TSM CHECKIN command.
So you can put a zillion other tapes in the library, and TSM will ignore
them.

Go with the LTO library. Tape performance is much better. DLT is good for
streaming applications, but tends to be slower with start/stop applications
(TSM tends to be more start/stop).
LTO capacity is higher than DLT.
LTO is new and cool.

Well, speaking from the land of painful experience, yes you can have TSM
overwrite a tape owned by another ACSLS application. That said, I believe
that the longer answer would include the phrase "in some instances." If all
of the applications lock the tapes they are using then I don't think TSM

folks,
one of our *SM client nodes (TSM v4) is missing its schedule since monday. In

Hmmm, from what I recall...
* A given file cannot span aggregates.
* A file larger than the aggregate limit (which is typically the transaction max

We are currently using an STK 9740, shared between 3 ADSM servers and a Unitree

We use separate pools for each server, and have implemented volume ownership,

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Oddly enough I hadn't thought of the possibility of the other app stomping

I think the other app is Netbackup, does anyone know how it might behave in
