Thanks as usual, to all who responded. It turned out the DBA recycled the DB and all
problems cleared up. He must have read that it was required after I pointed him to the
TSM/RMAN documentation.
Thanks again,

I seem to remember that upon upgrading the client code from 3.1 to 3.7, that the
default entered by the installation for MAXNUMMP was "unlimited"- which is not
correctly interpreted as 999, which is what I ended up changing the value to.

Hello TSM'ers,
Has anyone else come across the situation where Oracle RMAN is not deleting
backups from the TSM server?
The DBA's go through the process using RMAN, and it reports it has deleted
the backups succesfully, but they are not actually being removed from the
TSM server.
Thanks,
Mat
You have to run Expiration on the Server as the final step to actually delete them.
Do you have this running on a regular schedule?

This is normal, healthy, working as designed behaviour. What is happening
is that the TSM server is being queried to verify that the file does not
exist on the TSM server before it sends it there for backup. I believe this

I am interested to know if anyone is using TSM to backup Groupwise running
on Novell Netware. If you are backing up Groupwise, are you using the
standard TSM backup/archive client and are there any issues regarding
recovery if you do the backups while the mail system is up?
Yep! I have seen this too. I used the defaults when registering the clients
and thus the clients had no authorization to delete backup data! Use the
BACKDELETE=YES when registering a Oracle client node!

Hello,
We will be upgrading our os/3909 2.4 system to 2.6 to take
advantage of the newer tcp/ip stack that will hopefully improve
TSM backup/restore transfer rates.
The best I've seen here using a unix 3.7 client to the tsm 3.7 server

What is your oracle level? Which platform are you running on? What is your

Please look for sbtio.log in all the sub-directories under $ORACLE_HOME.
Is there any error message in it?

You have to configure/name the scheduler. Use either command line dsmcutil command or

We have created a directory /usr/local/admin/adsm that only root can read.
That way only a root user can be able to look at the scripts, our root

improvement so much as a reduction in TCP CPU utilization. By coding

Yes, you sound lost!
I strongly recommend before proceeding much further that you consider a TSM
class. TSM is similar to CAM in the sense that you use Stager disk in both.
But from there the similarities end and TSM is completely different beast.

Per some of the other responses to your question, you have two main choices
for keeping API (DB2) data separate from your backup/archive client data.
Either way you should use separate nodenames for these two types of data.
Once you have two nodenames, you can have them belong to the same domain,

The command

Any thoughts as to why the /advscratch2 archive would not be listed
