Actually you only need to stop the services if you are upgrading from an older install. It should be fine having them running if it is a fresh install and you are running the wizard. If they are not running the wizard will ask if you want them started. When you remmed out the names-pipe connection

Geoff, Correct me if I am wrong...but they are referring to using the BA client, not TDP for SQL (SQL Agent). TDP for SQL takes online backups of databases. I think they are trying to take a backup of the SQL databases by bringing the SQL server down, backing up the database files with the base

Alex, In short, you cannot restore to different platforms. You must restore with the same platform and filesystem as you backed up with. There are some exceptions like the FAT filesystem working across the PC world but with Unix you are going to be stuck restoring back to another HPUX machine.
