Hello,
the tapes are labelled with the "label libvol" command.
i need the actlog part of the 30 scratch tapes mounted by dbbackup.

Here is the error msg that TSM generates with a defective tape drive (or media)
:
Message
ANR8778W Scratch volume 343UTLL3 changed to Private Status to prevent re-access.
Tape robots are fast. Ours marked all 134 of our tapes as Private at a rate
upwards of 5 per minute on a weekend overnight
Note that it only takes one malfunctioning tape drive to use up all TSM scratch
tapes quickly. It happened to us several years ago where one malfunctioning
drive caused over one hundred scratch tapes to be marked private overnight. We
were monitoring on low scratch tape counts but not this pa
The simple answer is that you have to provide scratch tapes, else your TSM
system will be crippled. Look around your system. Examine the Activity Log for
the past week. Find out what has been happening to your scratch tapes. Look
particularly for lots of tape volumes in Filling status and in Rea
may be,
checked in the os level and library GUI also for library and drive status
. there library & drives are seems good.

This sounds very much like a problem with either the tapes or the tape library.
Backup is trying to mount a tape and timing out after 10 minutes.

Try running:
select library_name, -
count(*) from libvolumes -
where lower(status)='scratch' -
group by library_name
to make sure TSM thinks you have scratch tapes.
Does the actlog show any tape mounts after the start of the backup db command?

You've got to free up one or more scratch tape(s) somehow. Either that
or decide to write your TSM DB backups somewhere else, such as SAN.
There is no way around this.
How many Full DB backups are you keeping? Is that more than you need? If
so, see the DELETE VOLHISTORY command to get rid of old b
