Either that or decide to write your TSM DB backups somewhere else, such as SAN. There is no way around this. How many Full DB backups are you keeping? Is that more than you need? If so, see the DELETE VOLHISTORY command to get rid of old backups and release scratch tapes. A typical thing is to run a scheduled DELETE VOLHIST TODAY-8 or something like that after a successful rc=0 full database backup. Always make sure you're keeping your most recent FULL database backup and all the incremental backups after it. Do your own inventory of tapes in your tape library, and make sure you can identify what each of them is used for. They will either be VOLUMEs or they'll be listed in the Volume History File for DB backups etc. You may find some free tapes where you did not expect them. Or you may find library slots taken up by defective tapes that can be replaced with good new ones. Just be careful here, not to free a tape with needed data on it.
