There are a lot of issues with VSS backups for system state - even apply the 3 VSS fixes you need to apply does not guarantee you will get a 100% reliable system state backup. My recommendation is to apply the hotfixes for sure, BUT also to set up a ntbackup schedule task on your server to run a
