Remember that everything else you have in TSM is dependent on the database
and, in a disaster that takes out the TSM server, the backups of that
database. Whatever medium you choose, it should be the best-protected of
anything generated by TSM.

We take two complete backups a day on both of our servers to tape (LTO5
currently) - a FULL that stays onsite, and a SNAPSHOT that gets moved
onsite. We keep these backups for two weeks before recycling them. We
have yet to need them, but tape is cheap so it's worth it.

A couple of questions.
How large is your db?
What disk hardware is it stored on?
Is that hardware shared with any other file systems?
What are those file systems and what used for?

Under the hood 'ba db ' does perform a 'db2 backup db ...', but with added
features like being able to restore the TSM database while TSM is unavailable

Not sure on advantaged, but the only "supported" way of getting a V6.x TSM
instance back from a DB backup is one done with "ba db..."

Look at the "h define dbb", you can only specify a devclass, so a
scratch volume would be used.
(Note that you could choose different devclasses for fulls and
incremental : tape devclass for fulls, and file devclass for
incrementals is the idea...).

Hi Kiran,
Of course, enabling automatic backups of the db by a trigger does not
prevent from ding manual backups. Manual backups (or planned ones) are
still the recommanded way to backup the db. The trigger should only be a
safety valve.
It's not mandatory to define a db backup trigger when y

As demonstrated recently when a "minor" issue prior to me leaving on two

yes you can
1.define a devclass with devtype=file
>define devc devtype=file directory=
Make sure that sufficient freespace is available for destination directory
specified in the devclass definition
2.take the database backup
>backup db type=full devclass=
