George - Were the tapes introduced as pre-labeled by the tape vendor,
or did you run a labeling job; and if so, was the labeling
done under the current release

Sure, as in introducing them to the library without reading the
internal label, as in CHECKIn LIBVolume ... CHECKLabel=No.

My guess would be that there is a mismatch between the internal label and barcode.
Just a guess though..
