perhaps library is doing MLM pre-scan/autodiscovery of 2000 tapes.
Takes a long. time to pre-scan 2000 tapes.

Yale uses Panasus PanFS, a massive parallel storage system, to store research
data generated from HPC clusters. In considering feasibility to backup PanFS
using TSM,
we are concerned about whether TSM is appropriate to backup and restore:
1. very large volumes,
2. deep subdirectory hierarch
Our Windows Systems group prefers to use MS DPM for Exchange and Sharepoint

IBM level 2 support told us that v5.5.1 will be delayed about 2 weeks
in order to include the fix for IC56999. That's very good decision:

I can't speak about 10Gb, but we use fibre-extended 1Gb ethernets between
our A & B data centers. TSM clients @ A backup over the 1Gb network to
a TSM service @ B. Their backups are stored on disks and tapes @ B.
Similarly TSM clients @ B backup to a TSM service @ A. Works well for us.

Bad news:
For LAN-free backups, the TSM StgAgent drives the tape I/O.
For tape-tape reclamation the TSM Server drives the tape I/O.
