The following reference states that running multiple instances of TSM on the
same physical server is supported, but there are considerations:

I have installed TSM Client 6.2.0 for Windows above 6.1.3.2 on 32 and 64 bit
servers for testing. It looks fine, but I will wait some time before massive
upgrade.
I have tried TSM Client 6.2.0 for AIX above 6.1.3.0 under 5.3-09-05 as well. No
problems.
TSM Server is 5.5.4.1.

Hello all,
I am new at using the Archive command has anyone used use the archive

I was thinking the command would be

Anyone using this yet? I see that 63839 is supposed to be fixed.

If you think it's a bad hba, and you are sharing the hba with disk+tape,
then it would effect both.
Are you seeing any errors in the AIX error log? (errpt cmd)

You may be one of the folks that can't get away with having disk and tape I/O
on the same HBA.
If you can, replace that HBA card with a 2-port HBA card, and separate the tape
from the disk I/O.

If you're using dsmadmc, -servername option does the trick. But if
your're using dsmc/dsmj, the -optfile option seems a better choice,
event on a Unix system as it's the only way to read the options put in
your dsm.opt like file (with DSM_CONFIG or DSMI_CONFIG environmental

Thanks so much.
You might have to ask IBM that one, I'm sure it's a hangover from the days
when ADSM was first kicking around when Windows was much less of a
multi-user system than now. Instead, as already stated elsewhere, Windows
provides the -OPTFILE option.

It does, but you have to do it differently.
Unix: one big dsm.sys with several stanzas each starting with "SERVERNAME";
use the -servername switch on dsmc to indicate which stanza to use.
Windows: dsm.opt files with only one "stanza" each

Thanks for the info, but why B/A client for Windows doesn't have such a
flexibility to separate system-wide and user-wide config files? Don't say
windows in not multi-user ;)
Also, IBM did one of their Technical Exchange calls on NDMP setups, it might
be worth looking at: http://bit.ly/bUBPgk

Unix is inherently a multi-user system. dsm.sys is the 'system'-wide options
file - dsm.opt is the user-specific options file and points to a particular
stanza in the dsm.sys file. Potentially, every user on a multi-user on a
Unix system could have a different dsm.opt file (pointed to by the

Hello Grigori,
This parameter was associated with the old 1580 Web Admin and was
settable with the discarded SET SERVERURL command. It had sense with
server cross definition, in a TSM enterprise configuration.

Hi,
Why "netstat -a" does not show in server (AIX) that TSM is listening on port
1500? It is actually up and running and clients are sending backup to it.
Thanks.
