Unix is inherently a multi-user system. dsm.sys is the 'system'-wide options file - dsm.opt is the user-specific options file and points to a particular stanza in the dsm.sys file. Potentially, every user on a multi-user on a Unix system could have a different dsm.opt file (pointed to by the DSM_CONFIG environment variable).

I have two records in dsm.sys for two TSM servers and I connect to them using -server=servername. But do not know the reason for servername stanza in dsm.opt? I you remove it, nothing heppens! and it will be added when you change dsmj GUI preferences. Thanks
