Hi
I am getting the error below when restoring a DB during a Dr exercise.
Same version of TSM 5.5.2 , same Library 3310LIB, same OS - AIX 5.3 ML4
I have set up library sharing and we have done this many times before with no
problems.
All of a sudden we get stuck on this error:
# dsmserv restore
For the longest time, the easiest place to take the TSM server's bio
signs, was to check how long expiration processing takes. If you
could get expiration processing done in an hour, and you didn't have
any other functional problems with your daily process, then your
database is not too big.

Hi,
Could you call IBM support and open a problem for this, so we can get the
logs, and figure out what is failing here.
Thanks,

What I have seen during 10 years and hundreds of TSM environments is that the
number has gradually increased. When I first got into this business, 50GB was
huge.
Certainly the architectural limit is a boundary you don't want to get
very close to.
But besides that, there are issues of database performance as the DB
grows and grows. We have TSM servers running four TSM instances on
8-way pSeries AIX servers with redundant FC links to raw logical volumes

100-120GB was the IBM recommended limit based on their tests on a baseline
AIX system (Specs are lost to history).
I talked to the Watson Research guys at a Symposium quite a while ago on
this.

assuming it was Watson. He was with I
We have been a satisfied TSMManager shop for years and will continue to be
so. Over the years since the AC was released and reworked and
improved/polished, we have tried reinstalling and using it, numerous
times, and have always gone back to TSMManager.

We had a health check done by IBM when we were at TSM 5.3 and were told
they don't recommend a DB size higher than 120Gb for performance and
restore purposes.

The architectural limit is 500GB. Practically, one should be a good bit
smaller. It really boils down to how long do you want a restore of the backed
up DB to take? Figure about 150% of the backup time for a restore. Can you
live with that?

The Admin Guide manual says that the maximum size for the db is 530 GB.
We have DB's over 190 Gb in 5.5, on AIX servers:
TSM_Server CAP_GB MAX_EXT_GB PCT_UTIL MAX_UTIL
--- --- --
AIXPRODXYZ 191.95 0.00 89.4 89.4
AIXPRODDMZ 219.76 4.17 90.3
Just got from a class that it is 512 gB.

I believe the limit is somewhere around 600GB or so.
I have TSM 5.5 on AIX and my DB is 200GB, it was on 5.4 also.

Hi *,
Does anyone know what the maximum size database is for TSM 5.4 and TSM 5.5 ? We
were told by IBM when we were at TSM 5.3 that 120Gb was the limit and was
wondering what the limit is for 5.4 and 5.5.
Currently running TSM 5.4.3.0 on AIX 5.3 TL 9.

Hello All,
We have now installed the the 6.1 client on a Windows 2003 Proxy server
for backup. I have a couple of questions (for now)
1) do we have to install the 6.1.0.2 client on the 3 Virtual machine as
well?
2) do the Virtual machines have to be backing up on the same TSM server
( just aski
Right on, Wanda!
We also remind our clients that they can delete the unencrypted versions
stored on the TSM server (using the "Utility -> Delete backupdata" function
in the GUI client) and then run the backup; that way, they can rest assured
that all their sensitive data on the TSM Server is encry
