Hi,
How to do backup which is pointing to disk space and then copy to tape. So
that we can shorten our backup time and increase the backup performance.
Can anyone help me..
Thanks

Did you go to the back of the library and have it run an "update
inventory" on all the frames in the library? Is there a possibility
that perhaps some of the tapes were moved around in the frames by
accident?
When I have messy problems with my 3494 I have the library itself run an

In the case where you have a TS3500 with a 3953 (mainframe capable),
do you configure the TSM side as a SCSI library like you do as a
stand-alone TS3500,
or do you configure the TSM side as a 3494 library?
I configured the TSM side as a 3584, and it works. But I'm confused

I had already tried that. When I do an Audit Library, those 15 tapes get
dropped from the inventory since they can't be found. But then I can do a
'checkin libv ibm3494 xx checkl=no status=scratch' for those tapes and
they will check back in again. Is that weird or what?

How about an AUDIT LIBRARY ? I have had issues with tapes being "lost to
TSM" in my 3494 and doing an audit cleared things up

There are some suggestions about number of DB and LOG files.
I think that most important is to place DB, LOG and DISKPOOL files ot
different HDDs (if it's possible).
This will increase preformance. I think that TSM is using round robin to

I was just reading a document from IBM's web site about TSM administration
tips.
One of the tips is to have 4-6 recovery log volumes for a large tsm server.
What is the reasoning for this?
I guess I've always pictured log processing as mostly a sequential write
process,

Switching the recovery log between roll-forward and normal mode can
necessitate a full database backup. If you have space triggers defined,
and a new database volume was added, then that would also cause this.

I seem to remember reading in an old tsm manual that there was a limit on the
number of incrementals before a full was forced.
It sticks in my mind that that number was twelve or thirteen.
If I get a chance, I'll look through my old docs and try to find the reference.

Hi Geoff,
See Chapter 7 "Automating tasks", section "Return codes from the command
