Yes Larry, you are correct, the format
= drive, gives you the best compression based on the compression thechnology
of the drives and how accepable the data is to compression, for instance
exe,mp3,avi and files like that don´t compress at all, and database files,
text files and logs compress werry
Raw devices just get added to the storagepool, no need to format them.
As was noted in another thread earlier, the diskpool type will need to
be "DISK".
I'm not sure why you would want to create 16GB volumes at the OS level.
I used 16GB volumes because that was the size of one of my JBOD.
Thanks for the suggestions Ben!
I did take the 10 LUNS and put them into 1 logical volume/filesystem on the
AIX server and called it /tsmprod/stgpool2. I then formatted multiple TSM
volumes that were either 16GB or 32GB of the type=DISK and put them in a
storage pool. I've already removed all of

Hmm, my suggestions were made assuming she would put the raw
devices into a typical storage pool of a "DISK" type.
I saw the discussion about the serial/random disk usage and the
SATA, and how it could be the reason for her performance problem, and I
was buying that reasoning unti

Has anyone used Ontrack's PowerControls with the TSM Extractwizard as a

If so I'd appreciate any comments.

We have recently been testing the backup of W2K3 machines with a new
version of Symnatec AV software. (Ver10)
The W2K3 machines blue screen with a stop error (0x008e), while the
backup is in the System State.
Obviously this was concerning to the W2K3 server team and the finger was
