APAR IC45703 resolves an issue where ACSLS libraries are unable to mount
scratch volumes. ACLSL libraries will fail to mount scratch volumes,
though private volumes can be successfully mounted. Any attempt to mount
a scratch volume will fail with the following error:

Hi Zoltan,
JUST DON"T DO THIS. How much time is it going to buy you, anyway?
You can configure all 12 slots as storage, then the I/O door stays
permanently locked. (Option is on the front panel; it's described in
the 3583 Setup and Operator Guide.)
When you do that, it turns off library AutoCl
Unfortunately, that is the concensus.
IMHO, these features are missing from TSM:
1. Move COPYPOOL volumes/data
2. Deleted the COPYPOOL data for a NODE !

Hi Zoltan!
Well, if you are trying to move all the data from 3590's to LTO
cartridges, there is certainly no means to do it except to rewrite the
data!
Creating the LTO2 copy pool will take exactly one command: backup
stgpool primarypool lto2pool
Naturally it will take a long time to complete,
The Baltimore/Washington DC/Northern Virginia TSM Users Group is
planning its semiannual meeting for Thursday, May 5, 2005.
For this meeting, we are returning to Computer Applications Specialists,

On the agenda is James Griggs of Freddie Mac, who will be sharing
I'm in the 'belt - suspenders (braces) - safety pins - glue - duct tape'
crowd myself. I have my TSM database on a fiber-attached ESS; TSM
mirrors this to the same ESS in a different logical subsystem (ran out

Performance is another reason I DON"T mirror the DB, if all I've got to
work with is RAID-5.
RAID-5 is relatively slow for WRITE activity, DEPENDING on your hardware
implementation of RAID. A lot of people don't realize that. When you
are writing to a RAID-5 disk, it requires writing to multiple

I'd be interested to know if anyone has done real performance testing re:
using TSM mirroring with a RAIDed backend.
People on the list are raising valid reasons for using TSM mirroring on top
of RAIDed disk (though I think that it's important for people to understand
exactly *why* they are doing t
When posting, please include your platform and software levels.
Search on libPiIMG.sl at www.ibm.com, which has an explanation.

You don't mention which TSM client version you are using, or what
operating system on which it is running.
Try going to http://www.ibm.com and doing a search on the message code you
are seeing (ANS1168E). There you might find some info that fits your
problem.

The file is in the directory. Any ideas?

Yet another opinion:
If you are running TSM HSM, that requires 24x7 availability. Then you
should mirror both DB and logs.
If you are NOT running TSM HSM, a lot of TSM installations can actually
afford to have TSM down a couple of hours.
SO what I usually do, when I have the DB on a RAID device,
Sorry:
Neglected that piece of information.
Platform is solaris 8.
Drives are 3590b connect scsi with library connected via tcp/ip.

What platform ?
If AIX, have you looked at the MTLIB command ? My docs on MTLIB covers
info such as "Statistical Data", "Inventory Data", and so on.
FWIW, TSMManager collects all that info. It also keeps it historically

Hi, Gary -
I provide a sample program at
http://people.bu.edu/rbs/ProgrammingExamples.html which can be used to
promptly report 3494 problems and events: I employ its logic in a
comprehensive AIX environment monitoring system which I wrote for our

I would like to start tracking information on tape mounts, errors, cleanings,
etc. for the drives used by tsm in our 3494.
Some of this I can get from tsm itself, but not all.
Is there any way to get such information from the library manager remotely?
I am totally blind, and can't put screen rea
Another factor to keep in mind in general regarding TSM server
performance...
Easily overlooked is the impact of a large volumehistory inventory,
where its management in the face of substantial volume transitions can
induce appreciable overhead. This is particularly true as the

As I found out in a recent discussion with IBM about using non-standard

If using LTO tapes the first 6 characters are the label the 7th and 8th
