We are running TSM V5.2.2.1 for Solaris on a Solaris 2.8 server. I am not a Unix
admin. The Unix support team loaded and licensed Veritas Quick I/O. According to the
TSM Performance tuning guide you either want to use Quick I/O or RAW volumes when
defining DB, LOG, or Disk pool volumes on Solari
LTO was designed so you are read and write compatible back one level. and read
compatible back two levels I believe.
Therefore LTO2 drives can read and write LTO1 tapes.

I have a 3584 with some Ultrium 2 drives in just delivered and we are
using Ultrium 1 drives at the moment. Is there any problem that anyone
knows of with using this media in these drives whilst we move to Ultrium
2 media?
Thanks!
Sam Rudland,
I put on client 5.2.2 on a Windows 2003 server, and it gives me an error and
says it will not backup the system
state because my server is back level (of which it is, but can't upgrade for
a couple of months from TSM 4.1.3
due to other issues - but it is coming in march or april).

My TSM shares a 3494 with a mainframe; TSM owns about 400 tapes.
Audit completes in 2-3 minutes, depending on how busy the 3494 is.
BUT, audit will NOT run as long as there are other processes using tapes.
Wait to start the audit until there are no tapes mounted by other processes
or sessions.

Another thing to remember is that the "audit library" command
will not run as long as any tapes are mounted in the library. The
process will sit out there and keep other tapes from being mounted, but
will wait until all current tapes are dismounted by natural means. So, a

I just set up our two new LTO2-drives in an 3584-expantion frame. We
previously had the base-frame and four LTO1 drives. What I did was:
o connect hardware
o run cfgmgr
o define drives (DEFINE DRIVE 3584LTO TAPE4)
o define paths (DEFINE PATH TSM TAPE4 SRCTYPE=SERVE
Douglas,
Try

Thanks for the response. So, if I don't have any LTO2 media, I can just
leave the mountlimit set to DRIVES? But you're saying that TSM will use
the LTO1 drives until they are all utilized before using an LTO2 drive?

What is wromg with this scenario?
In batch mode, when I enter:
def cliento winxpadm inclexcl "exclude *:\...\*" force=no
I get:
ANR2050I DEFINE CLIENTOPT: Option INCLEXCL defined in optionset WINXPADM.
When I use, from the unix prompt,

Robert,
You could try to write the backup to a non collocated pool.. so the data
gets spread on multiple tape volumes.
Then expiriment with the resourceutilisation parameter in your option file.
The net effect you want to create is to do non qeury restores with as mutch
tapemounts as possible...
Moin Kevin,
This week we added two LTO2 drive into an Frame with four LTO1 Drives.
It works. We changes the devc in the way you describe it. In the LTO1
Devclass we changes also the parameter mountlimit to "numbers of LTO1 +
half of LTO2" => 5. So we have one LTO2 drive for LTO2 Media. The

I would suggest either to add 2>>&1 to the last line:

This because in the example below error messages are possibly displayd only

Hi
Sory to say that I could ot yet integrate after adding
the line
passwordaccess generate to the DSM.opt
It is creating filespace but it is not migrating the
files from DX to TSM It is giving the same Invalid
Configuration.
I could not make out whether the configuration with
TSM or DX is wrong
