All,
Thanks for this info. We'll patch our AIX box and report the results.
I'm curious about one thing though. If it's an AIX problem, why does shutting down
the TSM server (not AIX) and restarting it fix the problem?

Gerald,
The versions for Data Protection for Exchange
thus far have been:
1.1.0 - 4/1998
1.1.1 - 11/1999
2.2.0 - 3/2001
5.1.5 - 10/2002(VRML aligned with base client)
5.2.1 - 9/2003
The version jumped from 2 to 5 to align with the base TSM products.

I'm trying to find out what the history of versions are for this TDP..
I currently have an old CD with 1.1.1 on it. I know the current version is
5.2.1 according to passport advantage and that I can also get 5.1.5 from
there. Is there anything between those version? I understand there is a 2.x?

Jon,
Why bother with tee-ing the dsmadmc sessions? I really don't understand
what else you need to see in addition to the ANR2017I's. Sure, the tee
would give you the output of their commands, but is there any need to see
the output of their QUERY ACTLOG, QUERY VOL F=D, UPD VOL ACC=READW, DEL FI
Hi,
I have been running 5.2.0.0 on AIX 5.2ML1 for quite a while now (3-4 months)
with no significant issues. Everything works well and is very speedy. We
decided on 5.2 because we were using fastt products for disk storage and can
dynamically increase their size (well it requires a down...so it

Is anyone using (tried) TSM 5.2 on AIX 5.2 using Lanfree
with Gresham's EDT product? Gresham hasn't
tested combination yet and
won't until November/December timeframe.
We are building new TSM server and would like to go
with above versions. Any feedback (positive or negative)
would be appreciated.
There was a major bug in Aix 5.1 64 bit mode tcp that caused major
slowdowns in backups. It was apar IY36925 fixed in bos.net.tcp.client
5.1.0.37. The receive buffer problem occurred with that fix already in
place.

you should use the lb and mt definitions, and the native device drivers for
the drives which I think you are saying you do use.
you can check this, in w2k, in the management console under tsm device
drivers->reports->device information.

What experiences have you had with V5.2, on AIX if possible? Was it
5.2.01 or 5.2.0.2? TSM support recommended going to 5.1.7.2, but I
don't have the 5.1.7.0 media, but I have 5 copies of 5.2.0, so I was
thinking about doing that instead. Thanks.

Hi all,
I get a lot of these media errors lately. Guess this is media related, but what should

This is probbably cause by a full recovery log. You will have to allocate a
new one and extend your log.
As soon as TSM starts again, start a full database backup.

Hi all.
I have to install TDP for Oracle 5.1, so I am not sure about the
compatibilities with Oracle databases version.
I´ve got Oracle 8.1.6 and 8.1.7. May I use this TDP version with this
databases version ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello TSMers
A question regarding how TSM monitors files that have changed..
On win2000, TSM client 5.1.5.2, we have found that if we lose a drive and
have to do a complete restore onto a new disk (but with same windows drive
letter), the first time we do a inc backup, everything gets backed up.
Allen,
The particular client manual will tell you what local device if any is supported
for backupset restore.
For example my netware backupset restores do not support locally attached
devices so have to been done over the network.
Of course at the server end the backupset can be on a file device
