[vchkpw] Back up and disastor recovery

2002-08-15 Thread Chris

I have just complete a move to qmail/sqwebmail/vpopmail and love it! Now I
just need some final steps here. I understand back up and recovery for
qmail but how do I go about backing up my virtual domains and restoring in
case of disastor? Sorry this is so vague, simple links to helpful docs are
just fine!

Thank You,

Chris,

I've not got any experience of this so I may be missing something crucial
but I would say that all you really need to worry about is backing up your
/home/vpopmail directory. In the event of a disaster coming to pass,
simply restore that directory.

it stops directory hashing for user directories.

so lets say you have a domain with lots of users and you have disabled
users-big-dir
then all users of that domain have a directory directly in
~vpopmail/domains/domain.com

depending on the filesystem this might get somewhat slower.
don't worry when you only have 100 or 1000 users.. should be ok to disable
users-big-dir

Don't forget /var/qmail/users/assign and the cdb file. If you keep your
qmail(os) backup separate from your vpopmail backups... This shouldn't be
a problem if you don't add/remove domains often but, do be careful. Yes,
this did bite me so I adjusted the way I backup the mail.

Also you'll need your /var/qmail/control dir as well, as it houses
rcpthosts, virtualdomains, and other required files.

[vchkpw] smtp-auth problems

2002-08-15 Thread Iain

Hi,

I am sorry if this has been covered before on the list but I couldn't find it.
Feel free to point me towards a previous post.

I have installed qmail with the starttls and smtp-auth patches. I am having
some trouble getting smtp-auth working. I am using vpopmail version 5.2 with
the following config options:

--enable-roaming-users=y --enable-tcprules-prog=/usr/bin/tcprules
--enable-relay-clear-minutes=120 --enable-qmail-ext=y --enable-md5-passwords
--enable-passwd=y --enable-logging=y --enable-clear-passwd=n

Now I understand that if I want to user cram-md5 I would need to enable clear
passwds. However I can not get smtp-auth to work with PLAIN or LOGIN.

Actually it says that PLAIN is not supported and I get authentication errors
when using LOGIN.

For example:
user: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I get the following in mail.log:

Aug 15 16:53:53 voffice vpopmail[9776]: vchkpw: system user not found
test:192.168.1.16

My qmail-smtpd run using supervise is:

#!/bin/sh
exec 2>&1
exec envdir ./env sh -c '
  exec /usr/bin/softlimit -m $MEMORYLIMIT \
  /usr/bin/envuidgid qmaild \
  /usr/bin/tcpserver -UHRDv -x tcp.cdb $IP smtp \
  /usr/sbin/qmail-smtpd voffice.myspinach.org /usr/sbin/vchkpw /bin/true
'

Any help appreciated.

Iain.

[vchkpw] creation of directories and files when user created (Using MySql)

2002-08-15 Thread David

Hi all

Just a bit of a question for the list.

I have a setup that is working fine so far (vpopmail5.37), except for
one thing.

When I create a new account, I do it via a direct entry into the
vpopmail table (using MySql backend), this works fine, the account
exists, and the first time they log in, it creates the user directory..
all except for one thing.

I need to set up various sub-directory structures for consistency, and
may even need to create a default .qmail file (tho I am still finding
out if this is going to be a .qmail file in the users directory, or a
.qmail-user file in the domain directory) for individual spam filtering
via spam assassin, which I have quite nicely happenin on a domain by
domain basis.

I had thought that any structure created in /home/vpopmail/Maildir/
would carry through (sorta like skel stuff), but it doesnt copy the
structure even when the user is added from the comand line.

All the sub-Maildirs under the /home/vpopmail/Maildir directory are
owned by vpopmail/vchkpwd and have properties as follows:

[root@alpha Maildir]# ls -lA
total 28
drwx--2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Mar 11 06:26 cur
drwx--5 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Mar 11 06:26 .Drafts
drwx--2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Mar 11 06:26 new
drwx--5 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Mar 11 06:26 .Sent Items
drwx--5 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Jul 22 20:29 .SPAM
drwx--2 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Mar 11 06:26 tmp
drwx--5 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Mar 11 06:26 .Trash

I have read as much as I can, everything seems to be ok (if anyone needs
specific info, let me know) I was wondering if I have missed something
blindingly obvious (has happened before).

Thanks for any help

Regards

David Cook

Where are you getting the idea that ~vpopmail/Maildir gets moved into
any new user creation? To my knowledge, this feature does not exist

Re: [vchkpw] creation of directories and files when user created (Using MySql)

2002-08-15 Thread David

Hi again,

Well to be quite honest, it wasn't something that I had read, but I
couldn't find (not saying it isn't there) what purpose that particular
directory structure had (as it wasnt apparantly associated with any
user). So it was presumption on my part (incorrect it seems). I dont
necessarily think it was an unreasonable one, in that the skel system of
creation of directories on system user creation is one that is there, so
again, I presumed that that was its (the ~/vpopmail/Maildir) function,
to create a standard set of Maildirs for a user.

Sorry if I was wrong, tho it may be an interesting feature to think
about implementing???

Regards

David

Re: [vchkpw] creation of directories and files when user created (Using MySql)

2002-08-15 Thread David

Have been having a think,

Is this possible at all then, with my setup (using php/mysql to create
users), that is, getting a default set of Maildirs/.qmail files created
on user creation? if so has anyone got any suggestions? I would prefer
to not run shell commands/script (security) via php if possibletho I
guess a cgi could provide the solution, and I'm not using the inbuilt
vpopmail support in php (have had a few probs with it happening
properly).
