Strange delivery with vpopmail-4.9.10
Well, I need to parse all mail soming to sms-@sms.domain.com via script. So, I've created sms.domain.com virtual domain with vadddomain sms.domain.com command. After that I set ~sms.domain.com/.qmail-sms file and put '| /usr/local/bin/myscript' line into it. In fact [EMAIL PROTECTED] account works fine, but mail sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] address is rejected with "Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. vpopmail (#5.1.1)" Any suggestions? Best regards, Alexander Afonyashin

some stranges
Hello, i am using vpopmail+ qmail for many years. And today when i using vadduser, vadddomains command domains directorys now creates in /home/vpopmail/domains/0/test.com old behavior was simply /home/vpopmail/domains/test.com what means this '0' ? I doesn't want to use it, because i am using my own software to add,rem users and it doesn't like this 0. With respect, Yuri A. Kabaenkov [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It's part of the "balenced tree structure" feature. Unless you manually add your domains as well, I don't know of a way around it. You're probably better off getting the domain path from /var/qmail/users/assign. And for that matter, you could us vuserinfo to get user directory paths too, if you wanted to use vpopmail's vadduser to utilize this feature. Cheers, Bill Shupp

It should read strncat( bind2, relay_template, BUFF_SIZE); I also changed how relay_template was initiallized. What we were seeing, for some wacky reason, was the uninitialized template variable contained "tcp.smtp". Which resulted in tcp.smtp being unlinked. It's fixed. I'll post the change later today. Vpopmail Upgrade
Hello, I upgraded vpopmail from 4.9.10 to 5.0. For the aliasdomain, I can send mails to forward, alias, and autoreply ok. However, when I send mail to pop, I get a failure notice: Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. vpopmail (#5.1.1) I compiled vpopmail with: ./configure --enable-roaming-users=y --enable-relay-clear-minutes=60 --enable-logging=y --enable-hardquota=1000 --enable-mysql=y --enable-learn-passwords=y --enable-clear-passwd=y Please help. Yes I did. The clear password works fine. I can send mail to all virtual domains fine. I only have problem sending mails to an alias domain. If I do a ./vdeldomain and create it again with ./vaddaliasdomain new_domain old_domain, then everything works fine again. The problem is if I upgrade a production server, there are too many alias domains to manually re-create. Chaz
RE: Vpopmail Upgrade
Hrm...as I recall there were changes done to the code for how aliased domains work. I'm not sure if it ever made it in or was slated for 5.1 development. I've not run into this problem as I've been making new servers for all my vpopmail 5 implementations (one of the reasons that learning passwords has been a godsend) Has anyone else run into this problem? vpopmail 5.0 valias/mysql fixed and available
Hey, Bill let me on his development machine and I tracked down and fixed the valias core dump. Turned out it was in vget_real_domain() calling vget_assign() which returned NULL. A check for NULL was not done which caused a pointer seg fault when the pointer was accessed. The changed 5.0 is available. Please test. This is the final issue. If this looks good let's release 5.0 Thanks Bill :) Ken

This option was renamed --enable-many-domains. The default is yes, meaning you have more than 4 domains. --enable-many-domains=n is only for sites with less than 4 domains. rebuild/remake of 5.0 won't automatically convert your single table to a table per domain. You would have to do that yourself. warning: if you have more than 4 domains and you want to put each domain in a single table, performance will suffer. Why? because mysql opens a file descriptor per table and has a limited number of file descriptors. Too many tables will cause mysql to open and close file descriptors which is relatively expensive per sql transaction. ken Jones

Vpopmail 5.0 Debian Packages
Hi, I have made some beta debian packages available for vpopmail 5.0. These are apt-able here: deb http://linux.myspinach.org/debian ./ I am not the official maintainer for vpopmail. I have tried to contact him about whether he intends to produce vpopmail 5.0 packages but have received no reply. These packages are a little different to the ones released previously. Firstly they only support CDB as the authentication module. This is because the MySQL settings have to be hard-compiled into the binaries. The previous maintainer had patched the source to use a config file but the upstream developers have not included his changes. feedback appreciated, Iain. -- public key available at http://www.minihub.org/~iain/iain.asc
some bugs
Hi, I have noticed the following. If I pop my mail when my mailbox is empty I get the following in the syslog file: Oct 24 11:42:41 spoke vpopmail[31487]: vchkpw: system password fail iain:203.45.48.204 This occurs in both 4.9.9 and 5.0 beta The following is more of a wishlist than a bug report. There are several impediments to creating quality binary packages for vpopmail. The biggest is the lack of a config file. Some features should be able to be changed after installation. e.g. relay-clear-minutes, roaming users, default domain name. The biggest problem with having no config file is that it is impossible to create binary packages with mysql / postgress support as the host, etc has to be compiled into the binaries. The debian maintainer of vpopmail (Ondrej Sury <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) added some patches to use a config file but they don't seem to have been included upstream. Lastly, having man pages in html format is problematic for distributions like debian. If I or someone else submits man pages in Docbook format will they be incorporated upstream? Anyway thanks for writing such great software and keep up the good work. cheers, Iain. -- public key available at http://www.minihub.org/~iain/iain.asc

Re: Vpopmail Upgrade
Hi I'm not sure if this helps, but my assign file has the same structure with some exception. +domain.com-:domain.com:90:90:/home/vpopmail/domains/domain.com:-:: . You see, there is . (dot) at the end. Hope this helps. Re: tcp.smtp periodic removed after upgrade to vpopmail 5.0
Sorry for my late answer, but I was not at work for last week. I have compilied vpopmail 5.0 with your hints, but the problem is the same. After more than 10 hours the tcp.smtp file was removed. When i downgrade then to 4.10.24 with the same options, all works fine. What is the problem with tcp.smtp in 5.0? regards Dirk Tanneberger - Original Message - From: "Ken Jones" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Dirk Tanneberger" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, October 12, 2001 5:18 PM Subject: Re: tcp.smtp periodic removed after upgrade to vpopmail 5.0 > On Fri, 2001-10-12 at 01:13, Dirk Tanneberger wrote: > > Hello, > > > > I have upgrade from vpopmail-4.10.24 to vpopmail-5.0(final-beta). > > After upgrade I have a phenomenon. > > My tcp.smtp file is deleted after 2-3 hours. > > It is not visible , where is the problem. > > clearopensmtp runs every hour per cron. > > I start clearopensmtp repeated by hand, but tcp.smtp > > will not deleted. > > > > Where is the problem? > > What can I do? > > > > Here my configure options: > > ./configure > > --enable-roaming-users=y > > --enable-mysql=y > > --enable-incdir=/usr/local/mysql/include/ > > --enable-libdir=/usr/local/mysql/lib/ > > --enable-relay-clear-minutes=60 > > --enable-tcpserver-file=/etc/tcp.smtp > Don't use this enable flag.
