[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values
I have 2 monitors and one HDTV being used as a monitor. Everything was fine on Pop OS 19. I upgraded to Pop OS 20 (which I assumed bumped me to the latest Ubuntu) and now I'm having fractional scaling issues. Left monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode Middle HDTV = 4k HDTV in landscape mode Right monitor = 1080p monitor in portrait mode I can see fractional scaling in my options, but if I choose 125, 150, or 175%, it will only do 200%. And, it won't let me change it on one display. It only applies universally. Until this is fixed, my main monitor (HDTV) is frustrating to use with font so small. Also, I have to adjust the scaling in my Nvidia settings anytime I make any change because it makes the scaling of the middle monitor way too big. So, then the desktop actually "scrolls" until I manually fix the scaling. I have a GeForce 1080. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873403 Title: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1873403/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1876489] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: I am dealing with freezing issues. When I did install Linux from a USB stick, it did freeze in the installation process, so I did the run installation in safe mode (taught changing drivers will help). After Linux is installed, So when I boot up ubuntu, it sometimes(70%) freezes after login, and also it sometimes freezes while I am using it. Sometimes I even can't get to log in before it stacks. Then I need to do a hard reset. Also sound sometimes is not working. I did try to change Nvidia drivers. First I did use 440 drivers. Problem with Nvidia 440 driver second monitor not detected. I did try change to xorg opensource driver it shows black screen after boot - Stops on vendor logo. At the moment I am using Nvidia 435 driver it is working, but freezes a lot. I did try to add nomodeset in grub file - GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset". Then built-in desktop freezes before login with hp logo, bet when I add a second display, Linux work on a second display. Also, in Nvidia settings when I set to performance mode, if I put a power saver, it uses integrated graphics(Intel HD 630), and the second monitor is not detected then. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values
I want to add something here: I'm using the xrandr scale setting since 19.04 as fractional scaling has never worked on Ubuntu and X11. In the last versions the monitor settings weren't stored. In my experience when setting the display resolutions / scaling with xrandr, my NVIDIA card would always black out when I tried to change anything after setting the initial xrandr command. Either through xrandr or the display settings. It is also impossible to disconnect a monitor after setting the scaling, as the card would then black out too. Restarting the Gnome Server always helps in those cases. Here's my current script at startup, when setting the 200% scaling in the settings: ``` SCALE=1.25 POSITION=4800 xrandr --output DP-4 --primary --pos "0x0" --scale "$SCALE"x"$SCALE" --output DP-0 --scale "$SCALE"x"$SCALE" --auto --pos "$POSITION"x0 ``` -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873403 Title: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1873403/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver
Hi khitschler, I have the default Ubuntu 20.04 kernel and the freeze still occurs. My assumption about the correct behavior was wrong however I think I have just found a workaround could somebody you/somebody test it? >From here (by tbg - Admired ): https://forum.manjaro.org/t/kde-nvidia- screen-corruption-after-resume/60064/44 Apr '19 Here’s my latest version of a service to restart KDE Plasma after suspending, This version seems to work very well and unlike my last version this does not depend on crashing plasma so it doesn’t throw an error when executed. Plasma Restart Service With a root text editor create: /etc/systemd/system/plasma-restart@.service Service file contents: #/etc/systemd/system/plasma-restart@.service #sudo systemctl enable plasma-restart@$USER.service #sudo systemctl start plasma-restart@$USER.service #sudo systemctl stop plasma-restart@$USER.service #sudo systemctl disable plasma-restart@$USER.service [Unit] Description=Plasma Restart Service After=suspend.target StopWhenUnneeded=yes [Service] User=%i WorkingDirectory=/home/%i Type=oneshot Slice=user-%i.slice RemainAfterExit=yes ExecStart=/bin/bash -alc "sudo -Hiu %i pkill -ABRT plasmashell" [Install] WantedBy=suspend.target Alias=plasma-restart@%i.service Save the service file with root permissions, and exit the text editor. Then, enable the service: sudo systemctl enable plasma-restart@$USER.service Then restart. - Why this is not the default setting if it fixes even the NVIDIA problems? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849084 Title: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kwin/+bug/1849084/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1876533] [NEW] ThinkPad P72 - Display freezes when moving mouse pointer
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a ThinkPad P72 with a Quadro P5200. Whenever I have Discrete graphics enabled in the BIOS, or set the prime- select profile to NVIDIA, the display will freeze and the mouse pointer will drift for a few seconds. This makes the system nearly unusable. However, the issue can be fixed by simply attaching a new display and running xrandr --auto. This video illustrates the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOQxK_4xII0 I have tried with a newer kernel version and with older versions of the NVIDIA driver (390, 435). Nothing works. For this reason I believe the issue to probably reside in the kernel or X. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1876534] [NEW] ThinkPad P72 - Very serious issues with external monitors on Thunderbolt dock
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a ThinkPad P72 with a Quadro P5200. I recently purchased the ThinkPad Workstation Dock Gen2 and have been having issues with external displays on it. There are a multitude of issues with this. Sometimes you can plug in displays and both will show up fine after running xrandr --auto. Sometimes only one will appear and the other will stay black. There is a chance for any of these things to happen after making a display configuration change: - Nothing (displays work fine) - One display stays black - All displays including laptop internal display freeze, which is recoverable only by physically disconnecting the displays from the dock - Displays flicker on and off rapidly before every one goes dark including the laptop's internal display, requiring a hard reset. I have tried: - Upgrading to a newer kernel version (5.6.7) via mainline - Upgrading all system firmware, including dock, to latest via Lenovo Vantage in Windows dual boot - Downgrading the dock firmware from 3166 to 3164 - despite suggestions by people in this thread in the Lenovo community https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Ubuntu/Thinkpad-P1-Gen2-amp-Thunderbolt-3-Workstation-Dock-amp-Linux-Ubuntu-Monitor-s-black/m-p/4575709?page=3 - this did not work - Downgrading the NVIDIA driver version to both 435 and 390 - neither worked ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-28.32-generic 5.4.30 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-28-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend: suspend hibernate resume .proc.driver.nvidia.suspend_depth: default modeset uvm .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 440.64 Fri Feb 21 01:17:26 UTC 2020 GCC version: gcc version 9.3.0 (Ubuntu 9.3.0-10ubuntu2) ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None Date: Sun May 3 00:37:27 2020 DistUpgraded: 2020-03-04 19:48:20,592 DEBUG Running PostInstallScript: './xorg_fix_proprietary.py' DistroCodename: focal DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: acpi-call, 1.1.0, 5.4.0-28-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia, 440.64, 5.4.0-28-generic, x86_64: installed v4l2loopback, 0.12.3, 5.4.0-28-generic, x86_64: installed wireguard, 1.0.20200413, 5.4.0-28-generic, x86_64: installed (WARNING!
