[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1816947] Re: [Dell XPS L321X] Touchpad not working after last apt-get upgrade

2019-02-25 Thread opensas
I'm trying to pinpoint the kernel version in which the bug appeared.

So, following the bisection guide, I checked the releases of the artful
linux source package (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/artful/+source/linux)

>From my previous tests, artcul livecd worked ok, and it reported kernel
4.13.0-21

I tried installing the previous release to that version: (I couldn't
find the 4.31.0-21 version)

linux-headers-4.13.0-19_4.13.0-19.22_all.deb
linux-headers-4.13.0-19-generic_4.13.0-19.22_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.13.0-19-generic_4.13.0-19.22_amd64.deb

(downloaded from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/4.13.0-19.22)

I installed them with sudo dpkg -i *.deb

I assumed they should work ok, because they are before a version that
worked ok, but they present the same bug. Every other version I tried
like this did the same.

Then I tried with several versions from the upstream kernels (from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds) an they all worked fine,
even the msot recent ones. So this must be a bug introduces by ubuntu.

I'm kind of stuck. I'd like to be able to reproduce the working kernel
from artful livecd and then start bisecting from there.

Any other clue you could give me?

2019-02-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Maybe go back a little further to a 4.12 or 4.11 version. If they still
don't work then that's an indication the "fix" might have been in a
patch that only existed in artful.

Also, if you haven't already please try much newer kernels too. Like
4.20 or 5.0.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1817216] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-02-25 Thread Ramiro Caamano
Hi Daniel,

Thank you for responding quickly and as per your email i can advise the
following;

regarding step one /var/crash for crash there was no files in the folder
clicked show hidden files again nothing listed in the folder.
regarding step two visited the url and found the following response, No
errors have been reported from this system, tried to open the file could not
display whoopsie the file is an unknown type.
Unable to do in user mode will try admin and send a follow up crash report
if this occurs again.

Not sure if you required a direct email but i can post responses to log
if this is standard way to respond to assistance.

Appreciate your comments regarding the privacy so I have deleted the
crash report logs in launchpad but just left in my comments.

ps have sent an update since yesterdays second crash; in summary the
select NVIDIA driver option was clickable but not saving the choice and
so reverting back to Xorg.

Did a web google to find the terminal nvidia/ all drivers update command
and used the command to do a all drivers update approximately 34 updated
as new.

Switched to the NVIDIA driver and so far the comp is performing great so maybe
the fix on this particular model of graphics card is update driver manually
and use NVIDIA.
If you want to call this solved/resolved that's ok from my side.

Thanks again
Ramiro

Additional:

No further crash's/hangs since performing a full manual driver update
via Terminal.

During the crash's/hangs I ran the software update through additional
drivers and yet it did not pick up the new drivers.

I found there is a way to make the computer run a automatic driver
update also via Terminal but have held off to assess if the issue was a
driver issue.

I would like to add that when I installed Ubuntu I did the install
offline no connection to internet option, so the option that appears to
run a search for new drivers was not performed.

Thanks
Ramiro

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1817440] Re: System freeze only with Firefox

2019-02-25 Thread Meir Levi
The freezing seems to occur mainly with Ghostery & Adblock add ons.
Because when I disable them, freezing subsides. I had the same issue with
ubuntu - until I changed to Lubuntu with the hope a lighter version will
solve the problem.
Other than that I have no clue why since upgrade to ubuntu/lubuntu 18.10

Thanks, Daniel

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1817440] Re: System freeze only with Firefox

2019-02-25 Thread Meir Levi
Daniel
I think I have solved the problem. The issue was. I decided to change my OS
from ubuntu 18.10 to Lubuntu one. Before doing so, I backed up the "Home"
onto USB drive up using Deja dup app.
Then installed Lubuntu - selecting "erase Disk" option, then restored the
Home. After my reply above, I decided to uninstall all the add ons on the
Firefox. Restarted the browser & installed the add on. The freeze seem to
have gone.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1743094] Re: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29

2019-02-25 Thread EDEMPCO
I've been dealing with this issue since December 2018. It acted to me
like a graphic problem, so I posted a bug #1807264 as a video crash. No
help or comment on the bug report. In the hopes that a new kernel will
help, I'm continually upgrading to the newest. No luck, so far. I would
be satisfied to be able to turn off hibernation/suspend completely, but
there is no help with that either. This needs to be addressed.
