[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1196203] Re: the display brightness doesn't change (it is to the max) with Mir in ubuntu 13.10
I am experiencing issues with this same video card, my brightness is stuck on minimum brightness since upgrading to 13.10 (in 13.04 it was stuck on full brightness which was more usable) I am using a Dell XPS 13 (1080p), if you need more details, let me know what you need and I will do my best to get you the details. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1196203 Title: the display brightness doesn't change (it is to the max) with Mir in ubuntu 13.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1196203/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1196203] Re: the display brightness doesn't change (it is to the max) with Mir in ubuntu 13.10
OK with a little playing around I found that when I use the function keys to adjust the brightness the screen doesn't update but will used that setting after a reboot. i.e. set brightness to minimum and reboot brightness = minimum, set brightness to maximum reboot brightness = maximum. After a few reboots and some trial and error I got it at a comfortable brightness. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1222602] Re: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1222602] Re: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers
@Edwin Yes, seems likely. Since it works both for you and Colin, it is probably a new bug. Also, now that i have had more time to explore, the problem on my system is a bit different than what is described in this bug report. Visual effects are sluggish but not to as slow as described in this report. I will have to do a clean install and keep my fingers crossed. Btw, my system is an Asus 1215n with Intel GMA 3150 and Nvidia Ion 2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1222602 Title: [regression] [gen3] Mesa 9.2 makes Unity unusable on Atom class hardware and 943/945 graphics controllers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1222602/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242161] [NEW] Xorg crash on loading some child windows
Public bug reported: 1) $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 13.10 Release:13.10 2) $ apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 Candidate: 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 Version table: *** 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) X not to crash... Not really sure what else to put. More details below. 4) X crashed and returned me to the login screen. More details on what happens: It seems that loading child windows within certain applications causes Xorg to crash out and return me to the login screen. Most apps seem fine, though. I've been loading every app I have installed and opening as many windows I can find, but very few seem to cause this. How to reproduce: Using VirtualBox. I've copied across some VirtualBox settings from my previous installation and, upon loading VirtualBox on this new installation, I'm given a dialog box which says that one or more of the virtual disks are inaccessible. I'm given the option to "Ignore" or to "Check" and, upon clicking "Check", a new window pops up for a fraction of a second before then X dies and returns me to the login screen. This may help: load VirtualBox, create a new system, close VirtualBox, move the new system's files to where it can't find them then re-load VirtualBox. I did replicate the problem in another app earlier, but can't recall which one... All I remember is that the app loaded fine, but clicking a button to load a child window (a graph, I think), caused X to crash and dump me at the login screen. I'll update the ticket if I find it again. Relevant and perhaps useful information about my system: * Xubuntu 13.10 (fresh install on a new drive); * Running an Nvidia GTX 670 with the proprietary NVidia drivers (v319.32), installed via Ubuntu itself (not from NVidia's site); * Dual monitor setup, using separate X servers (one for each monitor). Resolution is the same, but one is rotated 90 degrees. Does this happen when using TwinView instead of two X servers? Yes. Does this happen when not using any monitor rotation? Yes. Have you found any video configuration where this *doesn't* happen? No. The GDB backtrace should be attached to this report. Please let me know if there's more information required or if you have an questions. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242180] [NEW] saucy regression - three monitors no longer work

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1232426] Re: Saicy beta Lubuntu does not save monitor configuration
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1235201 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1235201 I am a moron so forgive me, but I do not think this is necessarily a duplicate. Bug 1235201 appears in part to be a matter of adding new modes/configurations to get a usable desktop. This bug appears to more accurately capture the new behavior I am seeing in Lubuntu 13.10: My monitor settings were changed during the upgrade to 1280 x 1024.. The new setting pushes the desktop leftwards off of the monitor screen. Shifting back to 1280 x 760 recenters the desktop in the monitor display, but I cannot get that setting to save, even running xrandr gui launched using sudo from the command line. This is not a stored configurations or missing configurations that have to be added issue, this is the setting chosen in xrandr is not permanent between boots. As I said, I am a moron, so forgive me if these are actually the same bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1232426 Title: Saicy beta Lubuntu does not save monitor configuration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1232426/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I also ran xorg-edgers-live-test as described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge and that didn't help. Restored from my backup and everything works fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1235516] Re: service networking restart causes Xorg crash
I actually am having the exact same problem, right down to the lead-up. After resuming from suspend I found myself unable to connect to wireless networks, so I tried restarting networking with 'service networking restart'. lightdm and everything under it immediately went down hard. I was able to get to a VT, and when I tried to 'service lightdm start', the computer stopped responding to keyboard input, and shut down when I tapped the power button. Upon restarting, I tried to restart networking immediately after logging in, and the window manager ended up trapped in a restart loop. I then tried booting to the login screen, switching to a VT, stopping lightdm, restarting networking, and starting lightdm, but lightdm fails to start. Cursory examination of the logs provided by the original reporter indicate that our hardware is radically different. This leads me to be skeptical of the memory hardware diagnosis. It seems outlandishly improbable that two completely different computers would experience reproducible corruption of the same byte of kernel memory without any other discernable memory errors. This is 100% reproducible on my system.
