[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041625] Re: X not starting after install [openchrome]

2012-09-06 Thread Ron Mitchell
To add more to my comment above:

Greg suggested doing a particular keypress combination ( ) while Plymouth was loading. That put us into a CLI of
sorts, and eventually the live disk desktop loaded cleanly. All the
problems reported above went away.

Did an install to my main internal hard drive from there.

The result was an install that worked, but is still not clean. There are
still distorted background colours on the toolbars. Doesn't seem to
matter what app is tried, the toolbar shows up with horizontal multi-
coloured stripes.

Tried DisplayPort again today and this problem still persists. I did
make another test, however:

I can get DisplayPort working if I boot the computer docked and
DisplayPort plugged into the dock. If i then undock the computer and
redock, DisplayPort will not activate again and xrandr shows no
indication of a Monitor being connected to any of the DisplayPorts.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()

2012-09-06 Thread Ghislain Vaillant
In my case, I get a similar crash (same title in Apport than in this
bug) but it happens on both supsend/resume and cold boot. Not sure if I
should test the fix in -proposed or open a different bug report. My
machine is a Vostro V131 running 12.04. Please let me know what you
think I should do.

Bartosz, thanks. I tried building the latest openchrome revision according to
the manual instructions:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenChrome#Manual_Installation

Success!

X now starts up on the i386. When will that version make it into the
packages for Quantal?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1008494] Re: Gdk : Fatal IO error 11

I have the same problem: Fresh install of 12.04 x64, Nvidia 304.37
driver.

I didn't have this problem in 10.04; actually I would say it's started
in the last few months but I can't put an exact date on it.

but not all multitouch features are working and palm detection seems
poor, if it is being done at all.

- 3) What is expected to happen is when one installs nvidia-current and
- restarts, the touchpad continues to work as it did with nouveau.
+ 3) What is expected to happen is when one:
+ + installs nvidia-current, restarts, and login

- 4) What happens instead is the primary button does not work. The same
- problem occurs using an external mouse. The cursor may still be moved
+ the touchpad works.
+
+ 4) What happens instead is:
+ + with nivida-current the primary button does not work at all,
+ + with xserver-xorg-video-nouveau the primary button stops working after a
period of inactivity or until Firefox is open (especially with flash content).
+
+ Neither is resolved using an external mouse. The cursor may be moved

  works as well.

- With the nouveau drivers the touchpad stops working after a period of

- problem. This problem in nouveau was also present in Precise.

** Description changed:

  1) lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
  Release: 12.10

  2) apt-cache policy xorg
  xorg:

+ 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G98
+ [GeForce 9300M GS] [10de:06e9] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

  3) What is expected to happen is when one:
+ installs nvidia-current, restarts, and login
  + uses xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

  the touchpad works.

  4) What happens instead is:
+ with nivida-current the primary button does not work at all,
+ with xserver-xorg-video-nouveau the primary button stops working after a
period of inactivity or until Firefox is open (especially with flash content).

Neither is resolved using an external mouse. The cursor may be moved
around with the touchpad or the external mouse, and the secondary button
  works as well.

Hence, this touchpad problem is correlated to a bug in X. THe problem in
nouveau was also present in Precise.

Here is a tarball with a few crashfiles from /var/run. I'm pretty sure
the compiz one is unrelated (that it happened when I logged in over SDL
instead of over VNC) The others are two pairs of crash files from two
attempts to log in over vnc.

The colord crash happens every time I log in over vnc, even when I start

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()

2012-09-06 Thread ThomasNovin
System is doing fine on 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2 regarding crashes.

However, touchpad does not work OK! That little red pointer-thing (on
my Lenovo) works though. Also scrolling on the touchpad works.

Ubuntu developers: Are you going to reset bug status to confirmed or
whatever or do we need to open a new bug for this regression?

2012-09-06 Thread Serge Hallyn
NATURALLY once -dbgsym is installed this becomes much harder to
reproduce, implying this is a timing related bug.

Unfortunately unpacking a previous /var/run/_usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash file
and running 'sudo gdb /usr/bin/X CoreDump' doesn't give any sort of
backtrace.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-09-06 Thread Ronald
Is there a plan for resolving the issue with nvidia-96 or is nVidia
unlikely to provide the same update for those cards? I have a GeForce MX
4000 that worked fine in 11.10 but now doesn't, and the 173 drivers
don't work with it. I know it's an old card, but sourcing AGP cards is
getting hard! I'd rather keep this computer working as long as I can,
even if that means dropping down to 11.10. Could there be an official
backport path of some sort for getting a still-compatible version of
Xorg installed on 12.04 if the driver is unlikely to be updated?

Ditching a motherboard & GPU for a new release of X doesn't seem like a
stellar solution to the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041770] Re: Weird artefacts on screen (white traces, white boxes around windows)

2012-09-06 Thread Edward Donovan
Hey cagara - I'm using unity with the default theme, and haven't had
time to try testing with your packages. But here is another thought (if
you are still experiencing the bug).

A lot of people had graphical corruption when Mesa 9.0 arrived. The
people on bug 1042211 have intel video (Shahar's report was duped to
that), and are using unity. Their problems have improved. You've got
kwin, not compiz, and I guess you have nvidia hardware on that laptop.
But you might ask on that bug, there were a number of knowledgeable
developers there. Good luck!
