[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 872740] Re: Could not apply stored configuration for monitors

2011-11-21 Thread James Stewart
I'm getting a similar error on login with my dual-screen setup using an
Ubuntu card under 11.10:

Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors
none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes:
Trying modes for CRTC 351
CRTC 351: trying mode 3200x1200@50Hz with output at 1600x1200@50Hz (pass 0)
CRTC 351: trying mode 3200x1200@50Hz with output at 1600x1200@50Hz (pass 1)

I have a simple xorg.conf, unedited since it was created by the nvidia
settings tool.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 863045] Re: [sandybridge-gt1] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0xff2c001e

2011-11-21 Thread P P
The bug is fixed in
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-next/current/.
However notice there is no 32-bit kernel version.

One-shot fix is:

*sudo intel_reg_write 0x9404 0x1800*

which remove pixel flickering for my purpose.

With the HDMI/VGA disconnected Ubuntu starts fine. After Ubuntu completely
loaded the external display can be
connected without problems. At this time it is detected properly and works
perfect. The desktop is shared fine to it.
i.e each time I turn it on I have to disconnect external display, wait until
Ubuntu login screen displayed, then connect
  the external display again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887756] Re: Black screen on boot with sandy bridge processor

Workaround: all kernels will boot and run fine if I add "nosplash
nomodeset" to "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT". I have successfully
upgraded to Oneiric, but can only run with the VESA driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2011-11-21 Thread Ollea
I've installed
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_1.3.99+git20110116.0e27ce3a-0ubuntu12.1_amd64.deb
on Ubuntu 11.10 replacing the original
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_1.4.1-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb but it does change
anything, I still have the same problems :
- When a do a left click while dragging it does a right click
- Two fingers gestures aren't recognised
Is it a solution for this really annoying bug ?

Thanks for your help

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 790337] Re: Heavy disk I/O causes X rendering to hang

2011-11-21 Thread Johannes H. Jensen
Hey Bryce,

I just tested on my fresh Oneiric install and the problem still occurs.
I get the exact same results as comment #25.

It's worth noting that since first reporting the bug I've upgraded to an
SSD for the root filesystem. Yet the problem persists, even with the now
much faster disk.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 893322] [NEW] Unity Compiz Plugin off after kernel update

2011-11-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After updating to kernel 3.0.0.0-13 (after the reboot), the Unity plugin on
Compiz Config was unchecked and the Unity launcher lost the tweaks made. Trying
to check the plugin I have the error message:
"Some key and edge bindings of Plugin Ubuntu Unity Plugin conflict with other
plugins. Do you want to resolve these conflicts? IGNORE OR RESOLVE"
Asking to Resolve and pushing all the options nothing changed.

As I understand from the processes running in System Monitor, now I'm
using Unity 2D.

I already reset Unity and Compiz. During Compiz reseting in the Terminal
I have the same error.

When booting using the previous kernel 3.0.0.0-12 everything works
perfectly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: Dual monitors randomly black out, might be linked to switching workspaces

2011-11-21 Thread Da Shroom
Ah, Bug Control have arrived :-D

I have suspicions about it being related to certain monitor sizes, he
says that he doesn't get it with just his vga screen, but with just one
DVI screen he does. I doubt it is DVI specific, but it could be to do
with screen sizes. A DVI-VGA adaptor would settle this. And I also think
it's twinview specific. Despite the failures of the separate X screen
setup, it didn't black out, although there are trigger problems with
this.

Thanks,
George

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working

2011-11-21 Thread Ollea
Thank you Sergio, I've installed the synaptics package from your PPA and
the left-click + drag works now, amazing !

Two fingers scroll also but I disabled it cause then when I do a left-click +
drag he thinks I want to scroll, he doesn't understand that touchpad buttons
are down to the touch zone (see
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F-WjtG_gcg8/TjhkagDCmoI/Azo/G8TcVUPdH8k/s1600/hppb4520s-touchpad.jpg)
Any idea to solve this ?

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

you need more info.

Problem is that whilst I can see the x- and y- markers as I move the
mouse, the arrow2 pointer is only visible intermittently, and then only
when I am over a 'handle' or other feature that changes the cursor
image.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 893366] [NEW] default resolution too high when used inside kvm with vmvga graphics

2011-11-21 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Public bug reported:

xserver-xorg-video-vmware (1:11.0.99.901-1) in Precise incorrectly sets
the default resolution when used inside a kvm virtual machine. It
defaults to 2048x1536 instead of 1024x768 as it was doing in Oneiric.

See the attached log files. One is from Oneiric, and is working
properly. The other is from Precise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787587] Re: Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty

2011-11-21 Thread James M. Leddy
Hello all,

There are two bugs here:

1) 1024x576 resolution is not selectable by default in gnome display
properties.

This is coming from the EDID for the display. Unfortunately there is no
way to fix this directly and will have to be worked around, possibly by
issuing the commands in comment #4 on boot.

2) Setting the display to 1024x576 results in a black screen.

This is the main bug that should be fixed. According to the description,
this worked in Natty, so it sounds like this is a regression and once we
figure out what component is responsible for the problem we may be able
to bisect and fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 851947] Re: /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1 prevents Doom 3 from starting

2011-11-21 Thread Pastor
The Bug#852873
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ia32-libs/+bug/852873) is set to be
duplicate of this bug. But the solution written here to delete
/usr/lib32/libGL.so.1 results on my Kubuntu x64 with error saying there's not
this file when i try to run wine 3d games.
The working solution is from 852873 bug to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH (in my case it
is for example command in shell: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32/nvidia-current wine
wow.exe)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-11-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The compiz fix for bug 880707 is the change that I think might solve
(hide) this bug. I am getting a new Nvidia card today so I can retest
this.

However the current proposed fix for bug 880707 is much too complex and
risky to put in updates right now. It needs much more testing. Also, the
compiz administrator wants to completely rewrite it according to my
emails this morning. So much more work and debate yet.

In the best case, when we agree on the final compiz fix for bug 880707
(not the unity fix), then I'll put it in my PPA for all 11.10 users to
try.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 893431] [NEW] Random Display Freeze, Multiple Times a Day

2011-11-21 Thread Mark Mandel
Public bug reported:

I was running 10.04, but did a clean install of 11.10, and I get
complete freezes on a regular basis. Before this, 10.04 was incredibly
stable.

I can't use the keyboard, and the mouse pointer does not move.

Easy way to reproduce, I have a skype conversation, and then move a
window. That tends to do it quite easily.

I've noticed if I'm listening to music, the music does keep playing, so
it's not a kernel panic.

I upgraded to the latest nvidia driver (285.05.09) in an attempt to fix
the issue, but just had a freeze, so that wasn't it.

I also note that since I upgraded, my fans run a lot, as it looks like
my nvidia card is doing a lot of work with Unity, even when I'm not
actively using it. It never did this under 10.04 (and I use to have a
lot of Compiz effects running).

Next time it freezes, I'll be sure to ssh in and get a tail of the
dmesg.

Let me know what I can do to help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 893424] [NEW] Clicking mouse button 4 disables mouse

2011-11-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Following upgrade to oneiric, clicking the 4th mouse button (on an
Evoluent VerticalMouse 3) causes the mouse to cease functioning.
Removing/reinserting mouse does not re-enable; neither does restarting
X.

1st 3 buttons and wheel function as normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)

2011-11-21 Thread d❤vid seaward
I'm now using Ubuntu 11.10 and the issue does not occur with kernel
3.0.0-12 or 3.0.0-13. I resolved it in Ubuntu 11.04 by installing a
mainline kernel (approx 3.1), which I've since disabled in favor of the
kernel released with 11.10.
