[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 833841] Re: libgl1-mesa-glx alternative link
Update: I'm not using the standard Nvidia driver because I of a bug in the r8169 driver (see bug 821454). To fix that, I installed kernel 3.0.1 (see comment #3). After that, I needed the Nvidia driver from xorg edgers (nvidia- current_285.03-0ubuntu1~edgers~natty1_amd64.deb) A workaround to fix the bug here, I removed nvidia-current, did the update and reinstalled. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/833841 Title: libgl1-mesa-glx alternative link To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/833841/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 833841] Re: libgl1-mesa-glx alternative link
This looks very much like you've installed packages from the xorg-edgers PPA which have been multiarched and then downgraded; that's (unfortunately) not supported. Alternatively, you might be mixing versions - the nvidia packages in xorg-edgers are multiarched, and they won't install with mesa from Natty.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend
I experienced this bug in Natty, but the situation changed in Oneiric. The desktop now shows corruption after a suspend/resume cycle : the Unity Launcher and Panel are not pixelated, but the desktop is. If I open a new window, the window seems to appear behind the pixelated layer. If I use the expo plugin in compiz, the effect appears behind this layer too. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318325] Re: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram
For anyone interested, I have found a solution for my Acer Aspire 5100 in UBUNTU 11.04 (64bit version) The flashing screen is caused by the kernel modesetting feature (KMS) that doesn't work good on the ATI radeon xpress 1100 graphic chip, so I disabled this feature by editing the file "/etc/default/grub" and changing the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash” to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash nomodeset”. Then I ran: sudo update-grub. Don't know if this is working for ubuntu versions below 11.04. For the googlers around here's the sequence: 1) open the terminal and type: gksudo gedit/etc/default/grub 2) find a line that says: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash” 3) modify that line this way: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash nomodeset” 4) save, go back to terminal and type: sudo update-grub 5) reboot your laptop, then try to suspend it and resume, it should work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775060] Re: Random GUI "freezes" in Natty (can only move the cursor) (might be a segfault)
Okay. Here is an update. Currently running: Linux AccessDenied 3.0.0-0300rc7-generic #201107120911 SMP Tue Jul 12 10:15:32 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I had a freeze half an hour ago. I ran compiz --replace --display :0, Segmentation fault occurred like stated in unity.log (unity launches compiz). So I tried metacity --replace --display :0, which resulted in a usable desktop (but without the panels, but still, I could save my work). I couldn't replace metacity before because I didn't use the --display param. Therefore, I think it is a bug in compiz. I also wanted to point out that Maverick wasn't using compiz by default, and I didn't use it either. This means that compiz is the perfect candidate for the cause of this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775060 Title: Random GUI "freezes" in Natty (can only move the cursor) (might be a segfault) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/775060/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met
@Alberto: I think your point would be very valid if the hardware that was very old too. But in Lucid, I got full 3D effects using the nvidia-173 driver, in Maverick, I had to downgrade to nvidia-96, and in Natty, there's seems to be no way to get 3D neither in Ubuntu Classic or Unity. Maybe I'm spoilt but I've actually gotten used to Linux and Ubuntu supporting older hardware (also older than this) and and I don't like the thought of ripping out my perfectly functional GeForce 7300 to save me a second of boot time since it's anyway never going to work with my favourite OS again. Does anybody have experience with this graphics card and other drivers than nvidia-96? Any tricks I could use when I can't seem to make it work with nvidia-173 or nvidia-current? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741930 Title: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/741930/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 836974] [NEW] Dual monitor setup causes positioning issues
Public bug reported: I've observed two position bugs running a dual monitor setup under 11.04: 1) libnotify popups appear in the upper right corner of the 2nd monitor, way out of my area of visual focus. 2) Some apps (Libre Office) pop up their splash screen in a weird spot on the 1st monitor toward the right edge of the screen (as if it's calculating the center in between the two monitors). Thanks! The patch looks good. However, it's too late now to include this for oneiric: bryceh: yes, the patch looks correct to me provided that the package builds with it applied; bear in mind that this gets entangled with the freeze however (feature freeze) slangasek, should it wait for post-beta, or delay until p opens? bryceh: there's risk of regression for reverse-build-deps, so I think it's "delay until p" (preferably pushing to Debian in the meantime) ok thanks I've added a task to work on this for Ubuntu P, and am closing the O task as wontfix. Thanks again for the contribution, we'll look forward to seeing it in once the next development release opens. ** Also affects: libxaw (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: libxaw (Ubuntu P-series) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: libxaw (Ubuntu P-series) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: libxaw (Ubuntu P-series) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: libxaw (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxaw in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/834438 Title: Please convert to Multiarch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxaw/+bug/834438/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I also reported a pretty much duplicate issue with this in #836349 ... looks like this has been ongoing for a while and is stuck on kernel API call changes... I was trying to upgrade to Ubuntu's kernel 2.6.38-10 (really need 2.6.39 as that is known to have USB 3.0 **HUB** support 38-10 might have backported that but I don't know).. I guess the only way to go is to skip to something not LTS that might have a newer / new enough kernel. YES the current kernel I have has xHCI support, and my two hard drives plug in and work (fast) but can't add a third USB 3.0 drive without a USB 3.0 hub and that support isn't added until 2.6.39 . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 836945] Re: Screen always goes blank after 10 minutes
Hi Barry, It sounds sort of like gnome-settings-daemon is not capturing the settings properly, so your system is defaulting to 10 minutes. Since the line in dmesg suggests something's gone wrong with g-s-d I'm reassigning this bug there. Hi Jay, Sorry you're having trouble, however we no longer provide development support in the distro for the i845 GPU. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 831336] Re: running 'xterm' exists X session
Hmm, the code is failing on this line in exa_migration_mixed.c in the server: pExaPixmap->sys_ptr = malloc(pExaPixmap->sys_pitch * pPixmap->drawable.height); However the backtrace doesn't indicate what the values are for sys_pitch or drawable.height, so it's unclear why malloc would fail here. Can you tell me more about your setup? What makes it unusual compared with a stock Ubuntu instance? Any ideas why memory allocation might be failing? Also, you mentioned that you saw this "relatively recently" - is your implication that this used to work in oneiric and regressed recently? If so, can you give an estimate as to roughly what day (or range of days) the regression began for you? You mention gnome-shell... are you able to reproduce this bug *only* in gnome-shell, or do you see it under other window managers like unity or unity-2d? ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/831336 Title: running 'xterm' exists X session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/831336/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Please collect a full backtrace manually using gdb - see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions (skip down past all the apport directions for the stuff relating to gdb). ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Visibility changed to: Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821090 Title: Xephyr assert failure: Xephyr: ../../../../include/privates.h:116: dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion `key->initialized' failed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 833840] Re: synaptics touchpad doesnt enable after disabling from fn+f6 key on dell xps l702x. Even after restart just doens't work now.
Hi Amit, Thank you for testing and reporting. We have some work to do with this bug. * 1st, I need to check if the problem actually comes from synaptics driver, so please Alt+F2 and enter 'apport-collect 833840'(Of course without quotes :D). * 2nd: Did the command '$ gconftool-2 --set --type boolean /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true' enable it? would you please check if that command really did set the value, using 'gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled' what does it reply? 'true' OR 'false' ? if 'false' please use the first command to set it again. * 3rd: Please enter this command into your terminal: 'cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/Desktop/devices.txt' and attach the 'devices.txt' file from your Desktop to this E-Mail/Report. * 4th: What does 'synclient -l' reply? Thanks and happy Debugging :) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/833840 Title: synaptics touchpad doesnt enable after disabling from fn+f6 key on dell xps l702x.
